A Large Canine Heart Looking for a Home

Woody is available for adoption through Angels Among Us.

Meet Woody, a male Flat Coated Retriever who’s approximately 1-2 years old and looking for a family to call his very own.

When this gorgeous boy came to Angels Among Us Pet Rescue, he had been left outside to fend for himself at the end of a rope, with no one to really care for him, teach him and most importantly, love him the way he so deserves.

There was a lot of interest in him until the rescue group found out he was heartworm positive. Luckily, he found a wonderful foster family who is nursing him back to full health. In the process he helped them get through a recent tragedy of their own with his sweet disposition and playful antics. While they would love to adopt him, unfortunately they have a senior dog as well, and Woody is a bit too energetic for his older sibling to deal with.

As typical of his breed, Woody is very playful and very high-energy, so he would do well in a home where he can have plenty of room to play. He also would make a wonderful running partner, as he is improving daily on learning how to walk on a leash. Woody also plays well with other dogs, as he has been fostered with a 12-year old chocolate lab, but would not do well in a home with cats as he is true to his breed and has a high prey drive and loves to chase them, thinking they're toys.

Woody is housebroken and crate-trained, although he does prefer to cuddle with his people since he spent so long in a kennel before going to his foster family. Highly intelligent, he has already picked up on basic commands, and is working on mastering “sit,” “lay down,” “come,” and “off.”

It’s easy to see in this sweet guy’s eyes that he is "eager to please" and has a heart open and ready to fully love someone who is able to give him that “forever” home. His foster mom is amazed at his willingness to trust and love them from the very first day he came to live with them, despite being left alone in a shelter for so long. This boy is so ready for a family and home to call his very own.

Woody is currently completing his heartworm treatment and is doing well on his medication. He is also microchipped, up-to-date on shots, is scheduled to be neutered, and will soon be ready for his forever home.
