Brookfield to Host 'Raise a Racket'

The Aug. 24-25 fundraiser benefits the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

is once again hosting "Raise A Racket" this summer to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Raise A Racket is a unique spin on highlighting knowledge of and providing support to people with Cystic Fibrosis and their families, as well as fund research to help find a cure. Cystic Fibrosis, a life-threatening disorder, is one of the most common lung diseases in children and young adults. One in twenty five people in North America are unknown carriers.

“Money buys science and science saves lives” says Jon Baker, co-chair and founding member of Raise A Racket. “Every dollar raised makes a difference. The CF foundation is known as an organization that creates results.  A major breakthrough with Kalydeco has lead to a wave of opportunities with new drugs that are currently in trials. We are a long way from FDA approval but we have seen encouraging results. The people that suffer with this disease have made significant strides but CF is quite an opponent, it is relentless. My two sons struggle every day to stay healthy. We will continue fight but we cannot do it alone.  Now more than ever the CF Foundation needs the ammunition to fight this battle.”

Over 90 percent of dollars donated to CFF go directly to research to find a cure.

And fundraising is working: Kalydeco, approved by the FDA in 2012 is a potentially lifesaving drug for 4 percent of the CF population.
