Cumming Business Helps Out Weekend Food Drive

Mia’s Pizza and Eats is teaming up with local charity, Food for Thought Project, to help stock Forsyth County food pantries.

Theis a food collection program that helps to supply community food pantries. Since launching the program in April they have over 280 Forsyth County families participating.

An orange bag is given to participating families and they are asked to pick up a non-perishable food item each time they go to the grocery store to put in the bag. Bags are collected on the second Saturday of the month by a volunteer, who replaces the bag with a new one, and delivers the contributions to a local food pantry.

"Our second collection was Saturday, Aug. 13, and we collected over 2,500 pounds of food that was delivered to five of our local food pantries,” says Shari Brain Nunez, co-founder of Food for Thought. “We are excited by the response and generosity of our citizens and are eagerly awaiting our third pick-up on Saturday, Oct. 8.”

Now through Oct. 8, is sponsoring a food drive to help Food for Thought in its mission to keep local food pantries full. Customers who bring in two non-perishable food items will receive 10 percent off their dine-in bill.

“Food for Thought is one of those organizations that makes it easy to give back to the community,” says co-owner, Clori Rose-Geiger, “During these hard economic times, we feel it’s especially important to do something meaningful to support those in need. Since we’re in the business of food, we felt it the logical step to sponsor a charity focused on feeding the hungry. We also love the Food for Thought concept, and we think everyone should join their cause.”

Stop into Mia’s and bring some non-perishable food items. Let’s get those local pantries overflowing with food in time for the holidays.
