Drake House Hosts Seventh Annual Ice Cream Social Sunday

Ice cream is not only an American favorite, in Roswell Miss Mary's Ice Cream Crankin' charity event has become synonymous with one of North Fulton's favorite ways to give back.

"All of the money goes to The Drake House to support the assessment, support and empowerment programs and housing for [North Fulton's homeless] women," said Dana Robinson, Drake House spokesperson.

Tomorrow, Sunday, Aug. 28 residents from throughout North Fulton will descent upon the Roswell Square for the coolest way to help support families in need.

A nominal entrance fee gets attendees all they can eat ice cream. Over 100 flavors of the homemade treat are hand cranked by volunteers during the event. 

Besides beating the heat with cup-after-cup of ice cream, attendees can also expect to find plenty of entertainment, music from Firehouse Harmony Brigade Chorus and a fiddle team, as well as children’s attractions, such as a moon bounce and face painting. There will also be an ice cream eating contest and ice cream stacking contest.

Celebrity judges will choose their favorite ice cream in the following categories:

• Best vanilla based 
• Best chocolate based
• Best fruit
• Best specialty
• The Drake House Favorite

But don't fill up on ice cream entirely, save room for other snacks such as sno-cones and popcorn.

"Last year, we served approximately 3,000 people," Robinson said. "It’s our largest fundraiser of the year."

The event takes place at the Roswell Square from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. Tickets are available at the entrance and cost $5 per person or $15 per family.
