Habitat Completes UPS Sponsored Roswell Home

Habitat for Humanity North Central Georgia completed a home in Roswell for the Diallo family last month.

The Diallo family of Roswell will have a home for the holidays.

Recently over 40 volunteers, community members, board members and staff attended a ceremony to dedicate the Habitat for Humanity North Central Georgia home built in partnership with Mohamad and Madina Diallo and their three children.

The home was sponsored by the UPS Foundation with a $100,000 grant and employees from UPS provided the volunteer labor every Saturday for three months to build the home. The Diallos worked side by side with with volunteers and they couldn’t be happier with the outcome.

“We give special thanks to the leadership of Habitat for Humanity and to the volunteers from UPS for their dedication and strong belief that they can make a different in the lives of families,” said Mohamad Diallo, Habitat homeowner. “UPS is now a part of the beauty and success of this neighborhood.”

Mohamad and his wife, Madina - who have three children, ages 13, 9 and 8 - are naturalized citizens from Guinea. Mohamad is a co-owner of a limosine business and Madina is a nurse’s aide.

Mohamad spoke of his first experiences with volunteers stating, “years ago, I used to meet young Americans from the Peace Corps in my native country in Guinea on the mission to help local people in rural areas and I used to wonder how they took the initiative to cross the Atlantic Ocean and bring assistance in very different and sometimes difficult conditions. Now I have the answer. It’s all about resiliency, spirit, opportunity and moral duty that set Americans apart. We are proud to now be a part of this tradition and country.”

“Since 2005 metro Atlanta UPSer’s and North Georgia Habitat for Humanity have worked together to build seven homes in the Atlanta metropolitan area,” said Mark Susor, UPS Vice President of US Engineering and Habitat Board Member.”  “This year, The UPS Foundation had the opportunity to sponsor Mohamad and Madina Diallo here in Roswell and with the help of 219 UPS volunteers we took part in making the dream of home ownership a reality. Each of the Habitat projects gives us the opportunity to build relationships while we provide a helping hand to those in need. Mohamad and Madina have worked diligently to achieve the title 'homeowner' and we at UPS are proud to call them neighbors and look forward to being part of their dreams as fellow citizens and homeowners here in North Georgia.”
