Habitat Drives First Nail for Homes Two Families Will Help Build

Volunteers work alongside families to build Habitat homes bought with low-cost, no-interest mortgages

Two families are helping to build their own homes just across the Fulton-Cherokee line with the help of volunteers through efforts of Habitat for Humanity-North Central Georgia.

Habitait held a First Nail Ceremony for the two families on Feb. 5 at the Villages of Park Creek neighborhood in Hickory Flat on the border of Cherokee County and Fulton County. More than 50 volunteers, staff and board members came out to celebrate the start of two new Habitat homes.

The rainy weather didn’t hold anyone back from getting the wood cut and the houses framed, according to Habitat's Krystyn Johnson. The volunteers represented many of the sponsor groups that have contributed funds to build these two homes. Both families were on hand to thank all of the volunteers and worked side by side with them to get their homes started.
