Local Banks, Schools Collect Four Tons of Peanut Butter

Bank of North Georgia 'Spread the Love' by collecting four tons of PB&J to benefit local children.

Bank of North Georgia's recent "Spread the Love" 4th Annual Peanut Butter and Jelly Food Drive was a huge success this year, benefitting local children through a partnership with 30 metro-area food banks, including North Fulton Community Charities in Roswell.

In total, the banks collected 5,899 jars at 7,997 pounds, which is four tons of peanut butter and jelly; enough to make more than 63,978 sandwiches for children in metro Atlanta. The massive collection was possible thanks to the assistance of several area schools partnering with the bank, including Roswell's Chrysalis Experiential Academy, which collected the most of any school with 800 jars. The food pantry that received the most donated peanut butter and jelly was North Fulton Community Charities in Roswell with 1,353 jars.

Donation totals declared creamy peanut butter the clear winner over crunchy and the banks received more grape jelly than any other flavor.

Since 2008, Bank of North Georgia has collected more than 10 tons of peanut butter and jelly through this meaningful community relations effort.

According to Don Howard, Regional CEO for Synovus Atlanta, “The challenging economy has caused more and more families to reach out to local food banks for assistance and we felt compelled to take action. Our team has a genuine soft-spot for kids and we want to be sure they have the nutritious food they need to get through the day energized and excited to learn! Inviting our local school partners to join in the collection effort proved that we can make a tremendous impact when we work together to support a worthy cause. We are so pleased that the 17 partner schools contributed 42 percent of the total jars collected this year.”
