North Fulton Residents Asked to Fight Cancer through Study

Help fight cancer by being a part of a local cancer prevention study.

If you've ever wondered whether there was a way for you to help fight cancer which doesn't require fundraising or having gone to medical school, the answer is: yes.

Statistically, one in two men and one in three women will face some type of cancer diagnosis in his or her lifetime. You have an opportunity to participate in a study that may one day change that statistic and result in a family member or loved one not having to hear the words, “You have cancer.”

The American Cancer Society will be enrolling participants for their newest research study, the Cancer Prevention Study-3 (CPS-3). Local enrollment in the North Fulton area is being made possible in partnership with on Oct. 25-26. For information on location, dates and times, go online.

Here's the study rundown:

  • Individuals between the ages of 30-65, who have never personally been diagnosed with cancer, and who are willing to make a long term commitment to the study, are eligible to enroll, which can be done by going online and scheduling your appointment.
  • After scheduling your enrollment appointment, you will receive instructions to go online and complete your first, most comprehensive survey.
  • At your appointment, you will be asked to sign a consent form, complete a brief survey, as well as provide a waist circumference measurement and a small blood sample (similar to a doctor’s visit). The blood sample will be taken by a certified, trained phlebotomist. Your appointment should last approximately 20-30 minutes.

If you are unable to enroll, but want to do more, be an advocate for CPS-3. Spread the word to those close to you and encourage them to enroll. Forward this email to your contacts. CPS-3 will be enrolling at least 300,000 people at various locations throughout the country over the next few years. Should you not be able to participate in the study this month, your next local opportunity will be at the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life of Roswell, scheduled for April 27, 2012 at .
