Pigtails & Crewcuts Donates Portion of Proceeds to Benefit Autistic Children

Although April is Autism Awareness Month, the local kids salon celebrates all children year-round.

In observation of Autism Awareness Month, local small business owner, Nancy Anderson, will be donating a portion of April’s proceeds at her Roswell and West Cobb children’s salons, , to benefit non-profits that work with special needs children.

“Many of our customers have autism and we’ve taken it upon ourselves, this month and throughout the year, to help educate the public about autism,” said Anderson. “Our staff works tirelessly to accommodate all customers and give them the best salon experience available, regardless of their needs.”

When Nancy and Scott Anderson opened their two Pigtails & Crewcuts salons, their goal was to give kids and parents a top-rate salon experience and never pass judgment. As a former social worker, Anderson spent years working with children and knows just how important it is to provide a supportive, friendly and fun environment, for everyone.

She hired staff of the same mindset. The salon is run by talented stylists who have extensive experience working with children of all backgrounds, including the many autistic and special needs clients that the salon serves. Anderson says that they gladly make accommodations for any special needs that customers might have.

"We begin by talking to the caregiver to understand what may set the child off and what other sensitivities the child may have,” she explains. “Often, autistic children have a sensitivity to noise, light, too much outside stimulation. We work hard to accommodate the child. Sometimes that means we open the store early so that it’s quiet during their haircut. Other times, we may turn off the TVs or the lights. We strive to do whatever it takes to make the hair cut a pleasant experience for all of our visitors.”

Anderson said that Pigtails & Crewcuts treats every customer like a family member.

“We are here to serve everyone and meet them wherever they may be. We understand that being a parent is tough and adding a special-need component can make it super difficult at times. We are here to make one thing—a haircut—a bit easier,” she said. “You are family at Pigtails & Crewcuts, and while no child is perfectly behaved all the time, they are all perfect to us.”

Pigtails & Crewcuts is located at 1155 Woodstock Road, Suite 710, in the Super Target Shopping Center in Roswell.
