Roswell Relay for Life Announces Event Chairs, Presenting Sponsor

Relay for Life of Roswell is in the final stages of planning before hundreds of locals decend upon to bring .

This week the local relay committee announced this year's honorary event chairs and presenting sponsor.

Meet the Chairs:

• Chip Madren, 15, is an amazing teenager who in August of 2010, began his battle with aggressive stage-four brain cancer and after difficult brain surgery to remove a tumor, is currently on the long road to a full recovery. The Chip's Nation website - a site dedicated to the ever-growing support group of family, friends and even strangers who participate in fundraisers like Relay For Life of Roswell and support Chip and his family - notes, "Their lives have been affected through knowing him, his humor, his personality, his love of life and his friendship. Their lives will now be forever affected by his battle with cancer. They have chosen to engage the enemy and join the fight against cancer directly and in person by mobilizing a nation to support Chip and others battling childhood cancer."
• Bonny Dieterich, a third-grade teacher at School and a three-time cancer survivor, explained why she participates in Relay For Life of Roswell. "I love participating in Relay for Life," she said. "I feel very fortunate and blessed to be a three-time cancer survivor. I relay in honor of everyone who has or has had cancer."
• Connor Doyle, a sophomore at Milton High School, has been a participant in Relay For Life over the last few years. Doyle lost his sister, Courtney Doyle, on May 1, 2008, to cancer. She was almost 18 and in her senior year at Milton High School when she lost her battle. "My sister went through a lot of pain from chemo, radiation and surgeries," he explained on his Relay For Life profile. "I want to honor my sister by raising awareness and money to help others. Nobody and no family should have to go through this terrible disease."

This year’s honorary chairs will help launch the event during the Opening Ceremonies beginning at 6 p.m. on April 27.

Brian Martin, owner of , an American-style restaurant on Canton Street in Roswell, decided to support this year’s Relay For Life of Roswell as its presenting sponsor. "We are really grateful to have Brian and his team as this year's presenting sponsor," said Katha Stuart, Relay for Life of Roswell co-chair. "Local businesses like Slate Table & Tap are instrumental in our event and the fight against cancer.”

How Can I Get Involved?:

Festivities at Relay For Life of Roswell, which is in its 10th year, begin on Friday, April 27, at with the Opening Ceremonies at 6 p.m., followed by the Survivor Lap and then Caregiver Lap. Sign up a team or sign up as a participant for one of the existing teams; sign up as a survivor—either on a team or separately; sponsor the event; donate to a team or a participant to help them meet their goals; donate items or services to be used in the Relay Silent Auction.

The money raised is used to support research, as well as the programs and services offered by the American Cancer Society. Participants of all ages are encouraged to attend the event. Each team will have at least one member walking on the track throughout the 12-hour event and some teams will be fundraising in their campsites.

The annual Survivor Dinner will be held at 7:30 p.m. Teams of all ages from across the community will participate in the walk throughout the night, hosting fundraisers from their sites located around the track.
