Roswell's Finest to Raise Money, Go Bald for Childhood Cancer Cure

Roswell residents and firefighters will shave their heads to raise money and awareness in the fight against childhood cancers.

Roswell's uniformed heroes continue to make curing childhood cancer a top priority - even if it means going bald.

St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a volunteer-driven charity which funds research for curing childhood cancers, has raised over $174,000 locally since 2007 thanks to the efforts of volunteers, including Roswell firefighters and emergency medical technicians. One of St. Baldrick's best known fundraisers are its signature head-shaving events, where “shavees” collect pledges to shave their heads in solidarity with kids fighting cancer. The money goes to fund life-saving research.

This year, Roswell Mayor Jere Wood joined the effort to help raise awareness about childhood cancer by proclaiming March 5 - 11, 2012 as “St. Baldrick’s Foundation Week” in the city.

The designation will culminate with the St. Baldrick’s Head-Shaving event at , 1425 Market Boulevard, Sunday March 11, at 1 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. The group, comprised of 59 "shavees," hopes to raise $70,000 during the event. This is the 11th year that The Harp has hosted a St. Baldrick’s event.
