Education is a Luxury July 25, 2014 at 01:51 pm
Employer costs have been increasing every year anyway. It's called escalation, and anyone whoRead More sources insurance for their own company is aware of it. I think most people conflate "what was happening anyway" with "effects of Obamacare," but there is enough information on the internet about trends prior to 2009 to detail the original insurance problem. .....Personally, Obamacare is helping my business by opening up the insurance marketplace. In FY2008, I insured 3 employees (1 family, 2 single) through BCBS for about $3700/month. Escalation was quoted at 19% for FY2009 - an increase of $700/month. We hired an HR firm (or PEO) to access a group rates and paid 5-7% escalation 2009-2014. In preparation for FY2015, new insurance options have enabled us to drop the PEO altogether and choose a small-biz plan for a smaller monthly premium than our 2010 group rates. This is a tremendous benefit because it opens up options with fringe and retirement contributions to my employees. Deductibles and network coverage are too similar to impact any participants. Outside of my own experience, most people that I know who deal with insurance budgeting for their companies or families have reversed their opinion on Obamacare - once they had to put their money where their mouth is.

So it was only "affordable" because the government was subsidizing the increased costsRead More with federal dollars... which come from our taxes... which come from our wallets or get printed from nothing... so we are being told that ObamaCare saves us money on health care costs ... while we either pay more in taxes or lose buying power due to the inflation caused by printing money to pay for the subsidies... which is what makes it "affordable". I get it now. ObamaCare is a money laundering scheme designed to fool us into thinking we're all getting something for nothing while we're all getting less and paying more. No wonder they wouldn't tell us what was in it before they passed it!

Some people just have bad tickers and nothing can save them. I worked for a man years ago, in theRead More restaurant business, named Tom. While most of us were partying after close of business, herfing cigarettes, doing drugs and behaving like monkeys, Tom was getting his sleep. During his off time he was a jogger and tennis player. One day in spring he was mowing his lawn. He took a break, walked into the house and told his wife, "I don't feel so good", and dropped dead. Tom was 29.

A local pilots' group has petitioned the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to allow seaplanes, such as the one picture, to have access to Lake Lanier near Atlanta, Ga. Patch file.
Cain Harris July 25, 2014 at 08:49 am
What's with the comments about 17 year Olds, 6 packs,, and drugs. I have lived on the lake for 25Read More years and totally disagree. Most people that use the lake are responsible and not on drugs and alcohol. These remarks are made to try and make it look like current users of the lake are hoodlums and these pilots are somehow a better class of people and more responsible. Having Sea Planes flying in and out of an area where families are boating, fishing, skiing, swimming, and eating doesn't make much sense at all. Do we need to add more dangerous situations to an already crowded lake so these rich privileged daredevils have another place to play? What about fuel leaks and accidents? Who is going to watch over these planes when they land and take off? There is no way they can keep up with all the boats approaching, or families just enjoying the lake. Lake Lanier was never meant to be an airport!
Jeff Goodman July 25, 2014 at 09:50 am
Bad idea! It is hard enough just watching out for boats and jetskis!

Both of the bios you reference say he has been "a Judge", not "THE Judge" whichRead More is THE distinction I was trying to make. It is subtle, yet important to some.

I'm in favor of retuning to Her original design when Men were Men. When the Man lead his family andRead More voted once for his family. "residents should make sure they won't have to drive a few extra miles in order to cast theirRead More ballots." A more pressing problem is that several of these polling place changes involve areas where there is NO public transit. So, for folks without a vehicle who may have been able to walk to their polling place, this is an extra burden.
