very sad - RIP
Octo Slash July 25, 2014 at 08:28 am
Some people just have bad tickers and nothing can save them. I worked for a man years ago, in theRead More restaurant business, named Tom. While most of us were partying after close of business, herfing cigarettes, doing drugs and behaving like monkeys, Tom was getting his sleep. During his off time he was a jogger and tennis player. One day in spring he was mowing his lawn. He took a break, walked into the house and told his wife, "I don't feel so good", and dropped dead. Tom was 29.

Really sad - it seems like the good ones go before their time -
A local pilots' group has petitioned the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to allow seaplanes, such as the one picture, to have access to Lake Lanier near Atlanta, Ga. Patch file.
Ralph Stepp July 25, 2014 at 07:09 am
Anyone owning and flying a float plane or seaplane would more likely be 1,000 times more responsibleRead More and safer than 90 percent of the current users of which more than estimated 70 percent of those are using liquor or drugs and/or operate their PWC unsafely while on the lake. Some management issues would be required such as publishing and marking areas available for this recreational use.
Octo Slash July 25, 2014 at 08:37 am
Ralph is right of course. The problem, however, is the plane has to avoid the gnats (jet skis), andRead More the gnats would have to be aware of the planes, and that just ain't happening.
Cain Harris July 25, 2014 at 08:49 am
What's with the comments about 17 year Olds, 6 packs,, and drugs. I have lived on the lake for 25Read More years and totally disagree. Most people that use the lake are responsible and not on drugs and alcohol. These remarks are made to try and make it look like current users of the lake are hoodlums and these pilots are somehow a better class of people and more responsible. Having Sea Planes flying in and out of an area where families are boating, fishing, skiing, swimming, and eating doesn't make much sense at all. Do we need to add more dangerous situations to an already crowded lake so these rich privileged daredevils have another place to play? What about fuel leaks and accidents? Who is going to watch over these planes when they land and take off? There is no way they can keep up with all the boats approaching, or families just enjoying the lake. Lake Lanier was never meant to be an airport!

"Elson says if you have your number on the national registry and verbally inform a telemarketerRead More to put you on their do not call list, you will not be contacted again. " Not necessarily the case. They often will just contact you from different phone numbers and different states nowadays and cite some nonsense such as that it takes a month for it to take affect.
Marlene Mitchell July 25, 2014 at 08:19 am
I pay for the phone. I pay for the phone service. I am also taxed for the privilege. Why do I haveRead More to put up with them using my service? At least I should have the right to call them back on the same phone number they called me...this is NOT a level playing field. When I am driving down the road using MY car with MY gas I am not forced to let unknown people jump in for a ride just because they want to sell me something...or plaster signs all over it like a Nascar car just because these people want to sell things and then having the government tell it's no big deal because I can just take the signs off or put a sign on my car telling them not to put signs on it. Why am I being inconvenienced? Why can't I have access to the callers phone number...the one they are calling on. Why is the government protecting these people people and not me?

Both of the bios you reference say he has been "a Judge", not "THE Judge" whichRead More is THE distinction I was trying to make. It is subtle, yet important to some.
Ed July 24, 2014 at 05:50 pm
So the judge elect uses language that you, an experienced editor, found misleading? And then youRead More have the paid mouthpiece tell you that you're wrong? Anyone else feel like at least we should have been kissed? Isn't what the pages say a lie?

Blood donors are urgently needed in Georgia, says the Red Cross. Donations are down 8 percent this summer. File|Patch

I dont want to hear the American Red Cross declare an emergency blood shortage until they stopRead More judging gay males. No gay male is allowed to donate blood at American Red Cross. All blood is tested for HIV, so there is no longer a need for this restriction! Time to move past this!!

I'm in favor of retuning to Her original design when Men were Men. When the Man lead his family andRead More voted once for his family. When only land owners had a vote, because they had skin in the game. A simpler, more moral time in our nation's history. "Man invented his doom; first step was touching the moon."

"residents should make sure they won't have to drive a few extra miles in order to cast theirRead More ballots." A more pressing problem is that several of these polling place changes involve areas where there is NO public transit. So, for folks without a vehicle who may have been able to walk to their polling place, this is an extra burden.
