The Alpharetta Raiders earned their fifth straight win against the Centennial Knights on Friday night, outscoring the visitors 41-23. Alpharetta is 6-3 overall, and 5-1 in league play. The Raiders close out their regular season on Nov. 9 at Johns Creek, which comes off a 34-7 victory over West Forsyth. Johns Creek is 8-1 on the season, but shares the league lead with Alpharetta and West Forsyth with a 5-1 league record. West Forsyth plays Lambert, which is 5-4 and only 2-4 in league play. West Forsyth beat both Alpharetta and Johns Creek earlier this season, which will figure in playoff matchups. Centennial plays Chattahoochee on Thursday, Nov. 8 in a game televised by WSB-TV. The Knights are looking for their fourth win, and are 3-6 …

Raiders score winning touchdown with 46 seconds left in the game.
On a cold, rain soaked night, the Alpharetta Raiders managed a 32-26 comeback victory over their Region 6-AAAAA rivals, the Centennial Knights. The Raiders, who trailed until the final minute, won on a touchdown pass from Joshua Dobbs to Jalen Simmons with 43 seconds remaining in the game. With the win, the Raiders (8-1 overall, 5-0 in Region 6-AAAAA) sewed up the region championship with one regular-season game remaining. West Forsyth (9-1, 4-1) concluded its season with a 35-16 win over Roswell Friday and will finish second. Even if Alpharetta unexpectedly falls to North Forsyth next week it would still win the region title due to a head-to-head tiebreaker over West Forsyth. Centennial fell to 4-5, 3-2, but remains in third place in the …

Facing a top-notch Alpharetta squad, winless Roswell gets shut down 38-19.
Alpharetta thoroughly dominated Roswell on both sides of the ball Friday night, handing the winless Hornets their seventh straight loss with a 38-19 victory Although the score might indicate otherwise, the Hornets (0-7, 0-3 Region 6-AAAAA) were never in the ball game. Trying to put last week's crushing loss to Centennial behind, Roswell was hoping to do some damage to Alpharetta (7-1, 4-0), the top team in 6-AAAAA, and yet again came away on the losing side. Quarterback Joshua Dobbs and running back Jalen Simmons shredded the Hornets' defense and were able to lead the Raiders on early drives. A touchdown just a couple of minutes into the game put the Raiders up for good and there would be no turning back. After taking the early lead, the …

Hornets defeat Raiders 10-1
The Roswell Hornets baseball team scored in every inning except the third on their way to posting a 10-1 win over the visiting Alpharetta Raiders on Tuesday. Roswell's starting pitcher Matt Simpson went the distance for a complete game win, giving up only one run on five hits. After scoring one run in their half of the first inning, Roswell picked up an additional five runs in the second, led by RBI singles off of the bats of Andrew Chester and Chad Woodhead. Alpharetta scored its only run in the third inning. Alpharetta's starting pitcher Taylor Hall was relieved in the fifth inning by McCauley Bryant, who in turn was relieved by Austin Holtzer in the sixth. Alpharetta pitching gave up a total of ten runs on ten hits. The win puts the …

Fulton County Schools has posted the redistricting maps online.
If you've waited anxiously to see the initial North Fulton redistricting maps proposed by Fulton County Schools, wait no longer. The maps have been posted on the county's website prior to tonight's redistricting meeting. There are three alternatives to the current school district lines proposed for high schools and middle schools. Tonight's meeting takes place at Alpharetta High School at 7 p.m. The county anticipates it will be well-attended and has asked for people to carpool.

Fulton County Schools holds first of three redistricting meetings at Alpharetta High.
Hundreds of parents filled half the gym at Alpharetta High School Wednesday night, all wanting to have a voice in where their children will be going to school in the next few years. A new high school is scheduled to open on Bethany Bend in Milton in August 2012, so the Fulton County School System has to change its attendance zones. Wednesday night was the first of three meetings in which parents get to have input into the process. (Any parent can add input on the school system's online forum.) Fulton County School Board District 2 member Katie Reeves said, "Redistricting for a high school is one of the most emotional and tough things that you are going to go through." She said it hits the adults harder than the children, who will …

School's name, courses, colors will be chosen by Spurka-formed committees after this school year ends.
Roswell Principal Ed Spurka spoke to a group of parents, teachers and school staff Tuesday, Feb. 22 about his next job as principal of the high school being built on Bethany Bend in Milton, which is scheduled to open in 2012. "For those of you who know me, I'm kind of going back home. I started my teaching career in Milton, back in the 1990s," Spurka said. Spurka, who has been in the Fulton County School System for 14 years, said his hiring does not mean change for the Roswell cluster. The school system "is not breaking up the Roswell cluster." Spurka acknowledged the redistricting meeting scheduled at Alpharetta High on Feb. 23. "I know there is a lot of tension. What I advise you is let the process work," he said. He did "warn" the …

The first of three public redistricting meetings takes place at Alpharetta High School Wednesday, Feb. 23 from 7-9 p.m.
As most Fulton County public school parents probably already know, the lines are about to be crossed, moved, thrown out and redrawn altogether when it comes to school districts. Although the high school at Bethany Bend in Milton isn’t due to open until August 2012, the redistricting process of many North Fulton schools begins tomorrow, Wednesday, Feb. 23, and it’s expected to affect quite a few families north of the Chattahoochee River. “While the impact may be negligible for schools in the eastern most region of North Fulton, all communities are encouraged to stay abreast of the proposed maps, once developed, and provide feedback on any changes affecting their community,” said Fulton County Schools Spokesperson Susan Hale. Since the new …

Congratulations to our Alpharetta Raiders! You guys made history last night for AHS, in clinching the Regional Title. Much appreciation goes to the coaching staff, but also to the players, who have demonstrated what being a team is all about. You make us proud and I look forward to the journey ahead into the playoffs. I have been around these kids for 7 years now, both helping out coaching in the…   more ›
