Roswell Students Tapped to Row at Prestigious Colleges

Sarah Hudnall and Trevor Appier have signed letters of intent with the University of Michigan and Northeastern University, respectively.

Eleven high school seniors at Atlanta Junior Rowing Association (AJRA) in Roswell were recruited from this year’s Varsity squads to row at college crew programs - representing the highest number of recruits in the club’s 25-year history. Two of the recruits are Roswell High School students. A total of nine members of the AJRA’s Varsity Women’s squad signed NCAA letters of intent to row with highly ranked college teams. And two members of Varsity Men’s squad will also row on prestigious crew teams. They include: AJRA Head Coach Sam Greenblatt also coaches the Varsity Men’s squad. Skye Elliot is Head Coach of Varsity Women.

Atlanta Junior Rowing Association to Hold Open House Saturday

Teens between the ages of 12-18 are invited to come out and check out the sport of rowing!

If you’re looking for a fun new sport, have always wanted to know more about the exciting sport of Olympic rowing, or just want to get into amazing physical shape, check out Atlanta Junior Rowing Association’s (AJRA) open house on Saturday, Aug. 18. Current rowers and former AJRA rowers, parents and coaches will be on hand to answer any question from practice times to regattas to college recruiting.  Interested teens will also be able get into a rowing shell, be shown basic rowing techniques, watch race footage and learn about land training equipment.   The open house will take place from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. for teens ages 12-18 and their parents at the AJRA boathouse next to Roswell River Landing at 245 Azalea Drive in Roswell. Atlanta Junior Rowing Competes at US Rowing Youth Nationals

Local rowers placed nationally at a recent event in early June.

Once again, Atlanta Junior Rowing Association (AJRA) rowers capped another exciting rowing season at the US Rowing Youth National Championships when rowers from their Women’s Varsity 8+ boat placed second in the C-level final, finishing 14th overall. AJRA’s Women’s Varsity 4+ boat also placed sixth  in the C-level final, finishing 18th overall while AJRA’s Men’s Varsity 2- placed in the top 22 and Men’s Varsity Lightweight 8+ placed in the top 23 boats in the country. All in all, AJRA brought 25 high school rowers to Nationals with the Women’s Varsity 8+, Women’s Varsity 4+, Men’s Lightweight 8+, and Men’s Varsity 2-, after these boats qualified by placing in the top three in the U.S. Rowing Southeast Regionals in Sarasota in early May. …

Atlanta Junior Rowing Currently Registering for 'Learn to Row' Camp

The camp is specifically designed for teens who have never rowed before.

Ready, set, row. The Atlanta Junior Rowing Association just announced the upcoming dates for its not-to-be-missed "Learn to Row" camps over the summer. According to the AJRA, many campers have never even seen rowing before they come to camp, much less touched an oar. The two-week camps give participants an understanding of sweep rowing fundamentals, as well as equipment, terminology and safety of moving boats on and off the water. A basic workout program kicks off the class and everyone participates in rowing both four- and eight-man shells on the Chattahoochee River. Camps are co-ed for ages 12-18.
