Mayor's Barbeque Ball to Benefit The Drake House

Tickets to the Oct. 20 can be purchased online now.

Roswell Mayor Jere Wood will hold the 36th Annual Mayor’s Barbeque Ball on Oct. 20 at Miss Tillie’s house in the woods. This year the ball will benefit The Drake House, which provides crisis housing and empowerment programs for homeless mothers and their children who are from the North Fulton area. The Drake House has served more than 240 mothers and over 420 children since opening their doors in 2006. Enjoy live music by 3 Way Street and all the food you can eat during the event. The Mayor will be cooking up freshly smoked BBQ, cole slaw and corn on the cob. Additional food will be catered by Adele’s Cajun Cuisine, Artisan’s Café, Shane’s Ribshack, Dreamland BBQ, Spiced Right Ribhouse, Harry’s Whole Foods, as well as beer, wine, soft …

Viewfinder: Roswell Firefighters Compete in BBQ Contest

The 2011 Kansas City Barbeque Society National Cup was held at the Cumming Fairgrounds over the weekend. Here's a peek at some of the other competitors.

Competition was stiff as folks vied for the title of 2011 Kansas City Barbeque Society National BBQ Cup held at the Cumming Fairgrounds over the weekend. An estimated 93 professional teams as well as 34 backyard enthusiasts arrived Thursday night and settled in to begin the process of cooking their fare. Arriving from Arkansas, Florida, Kentucky, and Tennessee, and bringing families, participants set-up quickly and before you could say ‘barbeque,' the smell of competition was in the air. The Q-Team of Daniel Pomerantz and Jesse Doeninck of Tennessee have previously participated in the Kansas City Barbeque Society competitions together.  “This is our eighth competition together,” said Pomerantz. Home cooked barbecue ribs offer an affordable taste of summer

After several weeks of unusually cold (for metro Atlanta) weather, this weekend was brilliantly beautiful.  Compared to the cold of last week, it felt practically like summer and to celebrate, my husband decided to cook barbecue ribs. Our family loves ribs and probably could eat them at least once a week.  There are several barbeque restaurants in the Roswell/Sandy Springs area, notably The Swallow at the Hollow, Slopes, Dreamland, and Spiced Right Rib House (a fairly new restaurant on Atlanta Street, heading toward downtown Roswell). Despite that, going out for ribs is not generally an option for our family of five, mostly because even our seven year old has a huge appetite when it comes to barbecue!
