8th Grade Musicians Perform Under Friday Night Lights

Centennial's feeder middle school bands recently performed with the CHS band.

Nearly 100 middle school musicians experienced the thrill of playing under the Friday night lights when they joined the Centennial High School Marching Knights for 8th Grade Night recently. The event took place during the school’s home football game on Oct. 19 and included students from Haynes Bridge Middle School and Holcomb Bridge Middle School, which are feeder schools for Centennial, as well as private school and home school students.   The 8th graders practiced for weeks to perform the Star-Spangled Banner, Centennial’s fight song and stand music alongside the Marching Knights. “Our marching band students work extremely hard on the half-time show and the music they play in the stands each week,” said Michael Reid, Centennial’s …

Roswell Marching Band Takes First at Competition

The band beat out 13 other regional bands.

The Roswell High School Marching Band has a lot to celebrate right now. Competing in the Armuchee Invitational Marching Band Competition near Rome, Ga. on Saturday, Sept. 29, the band took first place in every possible category. They earned first place in color guard, drum major, percussion and overall band.  The band also earned the highest rating, Superior, in every category.  Of the 13 bands competing in the Silver Division competition, RHS band ended the evening by being awarded the championship trophy. The RHS color guard took first overall out of the 22 marching bands total,  the drum majors took second overall and the percussion took third overall.  Congratulations to the Roswell High School Marching Band!

Roswell High School Bands Compete in Cruise Festival

Students will receive final competition ratings in June.

The Roswell High School Band recently participated in a four-day cruise festival at sea. The band sailed on the Royal Caribbean ship “Monarch of the Seas” to the port of Nassau and CocoCay in the Bahamas. While on board, the Concert Band and Guard units were each judged. Both units received the highest ratings possible. Several band sections and soloists were also recognized with superior performance awards. Band members also enjoyed touring the islands, snorkeling, shopping and experiencing the ship. The Band and Guard will receive final competitive ratings in June comparing them to all bands sailing on cruise festivals this year.

It's the End of the Band as We Know It

Athens band, R.E.M. calls it "quits" after 31 years together making fantastic rock music.

A simple, straightforward announcement on R.E.M.'s website told their fans and friends that after 31 years together, the band is breaking up. "As R.E.M., and as lifelong friends and co-conspirators, we have decided to call it a day as a band," the note says. "We feel kind of like pioneers in this--there's no disharmony here, no falling-outs, no lawyers squaring-off," said Mike Mills in a statement on the website. Michael Stipe's statement said, "I hope our fans realize this wasn't an easy decision; but all things must end, and we wanted to do it right, to do it our way.
