Alert: Some Roswell Roads Will Close For Cycling Fest Sunday

Here are the roads that will be closed for the Roswell Cycling Festival tomorrow, Sunday, April 29.

Motor vehicles could see some unusual delays tomorrow, April, 29, when the annual Roswell Cycling Festival rolls into town. Roswell residents and visitors should be aware of several road closures. Cycling events will require segments of certain roads to be shut down for some or all of the day, causing slow and possible traffic backups. Roswell Police will begin directing traffic at major intersections throughout the historic district and down by the Chattahoochee River as amateur cyclists join the Mayor's Ride, which leaves from Roswell Area Park at 8 a.m. Use caution when passing cyclists. Keep in mind, Georgia maintains a three-foot passing law. Additionally, key areas of downtown Roswell will have partial and full road closures during …

Bike Expressway Could Come to Roswell

A potential "bicycle expressway" is up for serious consideration in the North Fulton area.

Some day in the next few years more people like Roswell resident Alex Olewicz could be cycling to work on a path dedicated to bicycles. Olewicz makes the astonishing commute from Martin's Landing down to the Perimeter on his bike each day. On a path specifically created for bikes his 40-45 minute commute might drop considerably and the safety of the ride would definitely improve as he cycled along a tree-lined bike path set apart from roads with no joggers, strollers, rollerbladers or pedestrians to dodge. But that is still a ways off, said David Low, deputy director of Transportation for the city of Roswell. "In terms of the [State Route] 400 'Bicycle Expressway,' Roswell does not have a concept or plan to provide bicycle connections …

Bike Roswell! Hopes Grant Money Funds Initiatives

The city of Roswell recently partnered with Bike Roswell! on a grant to promote cyclist/motorist education.

Roswell's reputation for being a bike-friendly city is not just for show and a new Roswell City Council resolution to partner with Bike Roswell! on an advocacy grant proves it. The city council approved a resolution to partner with Bike Roswell! on an application for a Bikes Belong advocacy grant at the council meeting Monday, Dec. 13. "It was a cooperative effort between the city and Bike Roswell! since the Bikes Belong Coalition only allows organizations whose sole purpose is to promote bicycling to apply for the grant. The city does more than just support bicycling programs, whereas that is actually the purpose of Bike Roswell!," said Steve Acenbrak, transportation director for the city of Roswell and current president of Bike Roswell…
