Four Roswell Area Athletes Honored at Sports Champions of Greater Atlanta Banquet

The athletes were honored during the Sports Champions of Greater Atlanta annual banquet, Thursday, May 9.

The Sports Champions of Greater Atlanta held its 10th Annual Banquet, Thursday, May 9, and four of the 19 student-athletes honored were from Roswell schools, including Centennial High School’s Amy Martin and Chase Rosenberg, as well as Blessed Trinity High School's Kourtney Keegan and Paul Stevens. The Sports Champions of Atlanta, which held its banquet at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, honors high school seniors and coaches that have helped make a positive impact on the world. The organization recognizes seniors that have excelled on the playing field, achieved a high level of excellence in their scholastics and shown great character. Coaches who compile an extraordinary record over at least six years to help produce …

Roswell Schools Have Volleyball Teams in Semifinals Tonight

Roswell High School and Blessed Trinity head into the semifinal championships tonight.

Tonight, two Roswell teams will head into the final four matches for their divisions tonight, Wednesday, Oct. 26. Roswell's girls volleyball team has been unstoppable this season. Tonight at 7 p.m., the team, part of the AAAAA division, will play Walton at Parkview High School. Blessed Trinity, part of the AA/A division, has also excelled this season. They will play Eagles Landing Christian Academy at Athens Academy at 5 p.m. tonight. Winners of this round will move on to the finals at Marietta High School on Saturday, Oct. 29. The final matches will be carried live on GHSA.tv at 11 a.m. (A/AA), 1:30 p.m. (AAA), 4 p.m. (AAAA) and 7 p.m. (AAAAA)

Blessed Trinity defeats Lovett 5-4

Titans come back in the sixth to win.

The Blessed Trinity Titan baseball team hosted Lovett on Friday and came away with a 5-4 victory over the Lions. Brett Marks started the game for the Titans going five full inning and giving up only a single run. Lovett jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but Blessed Trinity scored twice on wild pitches in the bottom of the first to post a 2-1 advantage over the Lions.  The Titans scored another run in the fourth inning when right fielder Matt Pelt scored from second on a Lovett throwing error. Lovett put up three runs in the top of the sixth inning.  After loading the bases against the Titans, one run was forced in when a batter was hit by a pitched ball.  The Lions tied the game with a run that was scored on a…

Sam Robb Fund Hosts Holiday Basketball Tournament at Blessed Trinity

Nearly 700 middle school players will participate in the three-day event.

The last true memories that Annamarie Robb has of her son playing competitive basketball were when he was in the 9th grade at Blessed Trinity Catholic School. Just before the start of his sophomore season, at age 15, Sam Robb was diagnosed with bone cancer. Just over four years later the disease claimed Sam's life. That tragedy led Annamarie and her husband to form the Sam Robb Fund, a charity organization that is designed to help fund research for childhood bone cancer. "There's not a lot of research for it because it's so rare," said Annamarie Robb. "That's why we're funding that particular aspect, so that doctors can find more information about it." And the Sam Robb Fund is the reason that nearly 700 middle school kids will participate …

Roswell Girls, Blessed Trinity Boys Off to Fast Starts in Hoops Season

Many local high school basketball teams have struggled in the season's first two weeks.

Roswell Boys The Hornets have won their first three region games for the first time in four seasons under head coach Ty Phillips. Wins over Northview, North Forsyth and West Forsyth have put Roswell in early position to make its first state playoff appearance since 2003. The Hornets are tied with defending state champion Milton atop the Region 6-AAAAA standings heading into the holiday tournament schedule. Centennial Boys Things are not looking as optimistic for the Centennial boys, who were a perennial playoff team under former head coach Allen Whitehart. With Whitehart now at Buford, Coach Joe Eineker has yet to find the magic that Whitehart did as his team is off to a 2-3 start. The Knights have been led by senior guard Nathan Harries, …
