The "technology innovation center"in the former UPS facility could bring 1,000 jobs to Roswell.
Updated Friday, Dec. 21, 2:57 p.m. - UPS closed the doors at the Innoplex facility in Roswell back in 2009, but GM is set to reopen the facility for a technology development center that could bring up to 1,000 jobs to the region. Roswell City Councilwoman Nancy Diamond said the state's economic development division worked closely with the Roswell Business Alliance in bringing the giant automaker's tech department to town. She credits the tireless work of RBA Executive Director Steve Stroud in making sure the not-so-secret move by GM became a reality. Jan Rosen has been appointed Sales Manager of National Life Group’s Mid-Atlantic agency, National Financial Services Group, based in Atlanta. In his new post, Rosen will lead sales activity in the Atlanta area for National Life Group, a Fortune 1,000 company with $29 billion in assets under management. Prior to joining National Life, Rosen was Managing Sales Director for MetLife in the Ft. Lauderdale and the Atlanta markets. He also brings over 19 years of management experience to his new role. His focus is life insurance sales. Rosen, his wife Aimee and son Matthew reside in Roswell, Georgia.

A Roswell man who formerly headed investor relations for a major children's clothing company was indicted on conspiracy, securities and wire fraud in multi-state insider trading schemes. Eric M. Martin, 42, of Roswell, former head of investor relations for Carter’s Inc., was charged by a federal grand jury today in connection with multi-year, multi-state insider trading schemes primarily involving Carter’s stock. The indictment alleges that, during Martin’s employment with Carter’s between 2005 and 2009, he traded in Carter’s stock based on material, non-public information about the company’s quarterly and annual financial results. Businesses interested in moving to Roswell will now have a few extra reasons to do so.
In addition to the state income tax breaks offered through the city's designated Opportunity Zone, Roswell City Council has now approved moving forward with its own economic development incentive policy, as well. Director of Community Development Alice Wakefield told council that staff and the Roswell Business Alliance (RBA) are consistently asked "What is the city going to offer," when new businesses are deciding upon a location with the most possible incentives. Prior to the new policy, the city officially had none of its own. The city's Opportunity Zone allows local businesses to take advantage of tax credits.
The Georgia Department of Community Affairs has approved the expansion of Roswell’s opportunity zone. The expanded boundaries now include five additional parcels located within five specified areas, making Roswell’s Opportunity Zone the largest in the state of Georgia. Expanding the Opportunity Zone is a strong instrument to advance economic development and further Roswell as a business friendly community. New or existing businesses inside an opportunity zone that hire at least two workers are eligible for an annual income tax credit of $3,500 for each job they create. The credits are good for up to five years, or $17,500. Therefore, businesses located within the zone will be able to help create and retain jobs within the city limits. …

Trader Joe's announced a recall of salsa and balela sold under its brand in six states, including Georgia, because of the possibility of listeria contamination.
Although no illnesses have been reported, Trader Joe’s is recalling salsa and balela sold in stores in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and southern Virginia. The recall was prompted by an announcement by Simmering Soup that listeria monocytogenes was found at one of its plants. Diced onions from that plant were included in the products that Trader Joe’s recalled. On it’s website, Trader Joe’s announced that the following products have been recalled: These products were only sold in the six southern states noted and Trader Joe’s recalled the products as a precautionary measure.
