Canton Street Event 'After Noon' Kicks Off Tuesday

The new historic Roswell event will be held the first Tuesday of the month, from May to October.

You've heard of Alive After 5, now the businesses at the north end of Canton Street want to introduce you to "After Noon" - a special activities event from noon to 4 p.m. on the first Tuesday of the month, from May to October. After Noon, which officially kicks-off on Tuesday May 7, will create another fun experience for families visiting the historic district. Mac McGee Officially Cuts Ribbon on Canton Street Pub

Business owners and city officials were on-hand to officially welcome the new Irish pub to Roswell's historic district.

Mac McGee has been open for a month, but city leaders and business managers made it official Friday, April 12 with a ribbon cutting. The new Irish pub made a splash onto the historic district scene with its red exterior, painted late last year. While some promised a boycott, the flashy color hasn't seemed to hurt business. Patrons can be seen mingling in and around the business, often enjoying the view of Canton Street from the upstairs balcony.

INC Autentico Closes to Become 'OPULENT'

F&H Food Trading Group will present its latest concept in historic Roswell dining using the space that used to be INC Autentico.

Canton Street may have lost a fairly popular restaurant recently, but owners Hicham Azhari and Fikret Kovac are hoping the new dining concept they plan to replace INC Autentico with will be even more popular. Azhari and Kovac's F&H Food Trading Group is set to open OPULENT - its fourth Canton Street endeavor - during early April. And once again, the group's culinary director Bob McDonough will helm the "global-inspired" kitchen, with the help of Executive Chef Andrew Long. 'Here We Come A-Caroling' On Canton Street

The community is encouraged to join in the singing on Canton Street, Sunday, Dec. 2.

The sounds of the holiday season will soon fill the air during Roswell’s 3rd Annual Caroling on Canton Street on Sunday, Dec. 2 from 5 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Residents young and old will stroll up and down the street singing their favorite holiday tunes while sipping hot chocolate, warming up by the community bonfire and enjoying the seasonal celebrations of local merchants. 'Sweet!' Shop Opens on Canton Street

The new candy and gourmet treat shop officially opens its doors, Friday, Oct. 19 with a ribbon cutting by Mayor Jere Wood. A grand opening celebration is planned for Sunday, Oct. 28.

Parks Department Brings Tourism Dollars to Roswell

The upcoming Roswell Arts Festival is expected to draw 10,000 people - many of them tourists to Roswell. With tourism meaning big revenue in Georgia, the Roswell parks department is capitalizing on sporting events, bridge tournaments and festivals.

Next month, the Roswell Arts Festival could draw 10,000 people or so to the town square. In addition to buying art, festival goers will probably spend money elsewhere in Roswell, benefiting local businesses. That’s what festival organizers are banking on, anyway. Alive After 5 Closes Canton Street Thursday Night

The city will close part of Canton Street for the monthly event in Roswell's historic district, beginning Thursday, July 19.

For the first time in its seven year run, the increasingly popular Alive After 5 will shut down a portion of Canton Street for the event. Organizers have decided to close the road from Magnolia Street to Norcross Street, allowing attendees to wander the historic district's busiest area, free from vehicle traffic. It's a move that many have called for since the event's inception and even more so after a local 14-year-old boy was hit crossing the street at the event during 2011. But fears over a drop in attendance due to a lack of accessibility proved enough to hold off on closing the street. Alive After 5: No Cars Allowed in July

The city has approved closing Canton Street for the July Alive After 5 event.

Roswell City Council recently approved closing Canton Street for the July Alive After 5 event. "Many of you have asked that the event close part of the street, so we are going to give it a try in July," stated a recent post on the event's Facebook page. After seven years, Alive After 5 organizers will begin to work with the city to shut down south Canton Street from Norcross Street to Magnolia Street. Roswell's Department of Transportation will post detour signs prior to the closing on July 19. Norcross Street will remain open and Roswell Police will be on hand to help detour vehicles, according to event organizers.
