UPDATED: Four Centennial High Students Taken to Hospital

The students ingested un-prescribed respiratory medication.

Updated: Tuesday, 7:27 p.m. - Four ninth grade boys at Centennial High School were taken to the hospital during the early afternoon, Tuesday, Oct. 2, after taking an un-prescribed respiratory medication, according to wsbtv.com. Roswell Police and EMS workers found the boys responsive around 11 a.m., but took them to the hospital as a precaution at the recommendation of Poison Control. "The students were drowsy and not feeling good," said Roswell Police Spokesman James McGee about the condition officers found the students when they arrived. "No word on how the students are doing," he said. "We turned the case over to the Fulton County School Resource Officers for further investigation." McGee said the medication taken by the boys was …

Centennial's Carlberg Era has Begun in East Roswell

Friday's Centennial vs. Etowah game will be on GPB-TV, - Channel 8 on most systems - at 8:05 p.m., with pregame live from Centennial at 7:30 p.m.

A new era of Centennial High School football kicked off last week as Jeff Carlberg roamed the sidelines in his first official game as Knights head coach. The former Alpharetta defensive coordinator brought with him to Centennial defensive intensity as well as the spread offense in the hopes of helping the Knights’ program break through with a deep playoff run. Embracing Change The offense performed well over the summer in various 7-on-7 camps and in a recent scrimmage against Marist. Senior quarterback Chase Rosenberg is thriving in the new system, building a rapport with his receivers that should help the Knights challenge for a spot in the playoffs. Centennial's Kalin Wilson Wins Discus Award

The local high school student is now eligible for a Discus Awards scholarship.

Kalin Wilson of Centennial High School in Roswell has been recognized as a 2011-2012 Discus Award winner for her achievements in the areas of Arts, Community Service and Government. "When I was a child I first started to realize my love of writing and poetry," Wilson writes in her multimedia profile on the Discus Awards Winners Gallery. The high school graduate, who lives in River Terrace with her family, was diagnosed with scoliosis during her freshman year. In an effort to occupy herself after corrective surgery at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta she started making keychains with the goal of giving them to other patients on her floor. Centennial Boys Soccer Moves onto State Quarterfinals

The team will play Mill Creek tonight at 7:30 p.m.

The Centennial High School Knights boys soccer team will play Mill Creek High School at home in the state quarterfinals tonight, Friday, May 11. Of the 20 games they've played so far this season, the team has won 18 of them, tied once against Habersham Central High School and lost once against Lassiter High School. During the game on Tuesday, May 8, the Knight's beat out Harrison High School, 3-0. Connor Davis scored two goals and Will Harrison scored one goal for the team. Other players with notable performances in Tuesday's game were Ryan Spence, with two assists, MK Sibanda, with one assist, and Matt Celani with four saves, according to the team's website. Tonight's game will take place at Centennial at 7:30 p.m.

Junior Knights Currently Registering for Girls Softball

Middle School girls zoned for Centennial High School can sign up now to play softball in August.

Rising 6th, 7th and 8th grade girls in the Centennial High School district can sign up to play softball with potential future high school teammates, this summer. Centennial's Beggs Honored as Top Student Athlete

XL212 and the Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce named Nolte and three other North Fulton residents as Student Athletes of the Month.

A Centennial High School baseball player was one of four student athletes honored at this week's Eggs & Enterprise Breakfast. Dustin Beggs, a senior on the Knights varsity baseball team, was the male Student Athlete of the Month. XL212, in partnership with the Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce, honored the April and March students in the chamber's Education Edition of the E&E Breakfast. Students are chosen for their outstanding academic, athletic, and civic accomplishments. Dustin Beggs, Centennial High Dustin has been an exceptional baseball player for Centennial High School, both as a hitter and as a pitcher.  So far this season, Dustin has a .500 batting average, hit 4 home runs with 21 runs batted in, and scored 16 runs.  As a …

New Calculations Sink Roswell Graduation Rates

The new federal education graduation rate went into effect Tuesday, April 10.

Adhering to a 2008 update to federal education regulations, the Georgia Department of Education recently released the new, four-year public high school graduation rate for Fulton County - 70.05 percent. In Roswell those numbers break down to a 68.55 percent graduation rate for Roswell High School and a 74.70 precent rate for Centennial High School. The new calculations, known as the adjusted cohort rate, are slightly higher than the new Georgia state average of 67.4 percent.  In comparison, the state's 2011 AYP graduation rate was 80.9. Roswell High School - which has a 2011 graduation class size of 561 - was 88.2 percent; and at Centennial High School - which has a graduation class size of 447 - it was 87.2 percent. “The new formula …

Former Governor Barnes Addresses Centennial Students

Former Georgia Governor Roy Barnes spoke at a recent Career Technology Students Organization (CTSO) meeting at the local high school.

Governor Roy E. Barnes recently visited Centennial High School to give the keynote address for the Career Technology Students Organization (CTSO) meeting, discussing the link between business and government and how these two entities must work together to provide a prosperous economic future for the state of Georgia. The governor stressed the need for schools to produce graduates who possess the skills necessary to fulfill future job requirements. Centennial Special Education Students Get a Look at LIFE @ Siemens

Alpharetta company will "lose" some workers next week when Spring Break rolls around.

Next week, when several Centennial High School students go on the Fulton County School System's Spring Break, things could look a little different at Siemens Industry Inc. in Alpharetta. Office mail might go undelivered. Food in the company cafeteria might not be set out as quickly. The recycling bins might go unsorted, and floors and walls might not be as spotless as usual. Of course, companies as large as Siemens have full-time employees for these responsibilities, but none are cheerful or beloved as the five Centennial High School students who work there as part of the LIFE @ Siemens program. Centennial Raises Money for Northside's Breast Cancer Program

The high school's basketball team and cheerleaders lead the effort to support breast cancer research.

The Centennial High School Knights varsity basketball team and cheerleading squad recently presented Northside Hospital’s Breast Care Program with a check to help raise awareness of breast cancer. The money was raised during the school’s annual breast cancer awareness campaign and Pink Out basketball game, held in January. This is the third year that Centennial has supported breast cancer patients at Northside. "Our efforts to raise money for ‘the Cure,’ we hope, is our small way of showing our love, respect and concern for all the Centennial High School teachers and women of the Centennial community that have survived breast cancer or who may be currently battling against this disease," said Michael Harries, president, Centennial Tip-Off …
