The second win of the season was well worth the almost two month wait for the Roswell Hornet varsity football team. Caught in a six game tailspin, Roswell finally righted their collective course Friday night with a 34-6.
Roswell jumped on the Cherokee Warriors early Friday night at home in the Hornet’s Nest at Ray Manus Stadium and ultimately won the game, 34-6. With the Warriors offense slowly driving the length of the field in the opening minutes of the first quarter, the Roswell defense halted the Cherokee attack in its tracks with a momentous turnover. A forced fumble, which was then scooped up by senior Grant Beidel and returned for a touchdown, may have very well changed the entire course of the game. With seven points already on the board, Roswell’s star running back Andrew Kwateng broke a 69-yard touchdown run by tiptoeing down the Hornet’s sideline. Up 14-0, Roswell never looked back. Individual branches chose local charities to support.
Recognizing that there are literally thousands of families in desperate need of assistance during the holiday season, Bank of North Georgia is hosting a Holiday Toy Drive through Dec. 16 at all 46 branches in metro Atlanta. Last year, a total of 2,787 toys were collected through this program and this year each individual branch has chosen a local charity to support “Bank of North Georgia is very much at the heart of community life in Metro Atlanta, supporting those institutions and programs that make the communities we serve desirable places to live and work. Hornets take down the Warriors in the final game of the Cherokee High School Showcase Tournament.
The Roswell girls basketball team defeated the host Cherokee Warriors 62-50 in Thursday night's wrap up to the 2010 Cherokee Basketball Showcase Tournament. Roswell's swarming defense and Cherokee's problems handling the ball combined to allow the Hornets to take a 12-5 lead over the Warriors at the end of the first quarter. Early in the second quarter, Cherokee was still having problems penetrating Roswell's defense and getting to the basket. In addition, their outside shots were not falling. By the end of the first half, the Warriors trailed the Hornets 30-21. The game continued on the same pace throughout the third quarter during which Roswell extended their lead to 16 points.
