No Apparent Foul in Death of Roswell Chickens

Some of "Chicken Man" Andrew Wordes' chickens mysteriously died last month, but toxicology report shows foul play was likely not involved.

The toxicology report on Andrew Wordes' dead chickens has come back from the University of Georgia's College of Veterinary Medicine and it doesn't appear to show they were poisoned, as some initially believed. Wordes was devastated when he lost between 45 to 50 of his chickens and turkeys over the July 4 weekend. At the time, he told Roswell Patch he believed that someone had trespassed on his property to poison them while he was out of town. But lab results recently released showed that the amount of lead in the birds livers was below the toxic range. And no toxic organic compound which is was present either, however the report does seem to indicate that not every toxic organic compound may show up in the tests. According to the report, …

Roswell 'Chicken Man' Jailed

Andrew Wordes was taken into custody today for violating his probation.

Andrew Wordes, Roswell's "Chicken Man," was jailed until November this afternoon after appearing before Judge Maurice Hilliard at the Roswell Municipal Court to answer charges for violating his probation. The probation stemmed from two separate cases involving illegal grading on Wordes property during 2009 and his violation of a city ordinance that maintains how many inoperable vehicles residents are allowed to keep, according to Assistant City Attorney Bob Hulsey, who was not in court today.   Wordes - who is known for raising chickens at his Roswell home - was sentenced to pay $1,000 for each violation, in lieu of up to one year of jail time, but the sentence was commuted to 180 hours of community service, which had not been completed by…

He could have been in such bad health because of his property flooding, etc . Possibly mold in the home. This entire situation is so very sad that nobody would come to his aid. I have lived in Roswell 25 years and have old neighbors. I bring them dinner, go to church with them. He only needed HELP. I wish I had known of this story before today's tragedy. Shame on you people. There is so much …   more ›

Roswell 'Chicken Man' Cries Foul

Andrew Wordes lost most of his chickens this past weekend to what he believes was poisoning by a trespasser.

UPDATE: July 7 10:50 a.m. It wasn't a very happy holiday weekend for Andrew Wordes, who returned home from a short trip to find nearly all of his chickens dead or dying.  According to Wordes, the deaths of his controversial chickens isn't an accident. He believes 45 of about 50 chickens were killed, possibly with poision, by "someone with a grudge." The blow is direct hit, but it's just one of many in the years he's spent fighting the city for his right to raise and keep chickens on his property just off Alpharetta Highway, he says. On Tuesday, July 5, Roswell PD spokesperson James McGee said the incident was not reported to the Roswell Police Department.  "I understand there was an e-mail sent out but no call to the police," he had said, …

Gee whiz, I don't blame the neighbor for being "very confrontational." How do you expect him to respond when people like you accuse him of being someone that we ought to watch out for as someone who might be killing people sometime in the future. I don't know if he did or didn't have a party, but.. so what, do you seriously believe this guy would poison his neighbors birds with some undetectable …   more ›
