Six Traffic Deaths Reported in Georgia During New Year's Holiday

The Georgia State Patrol reported its troopers investigated 586 accidents as of daybreak today, Jan. 2.

Georgia State Troopers have investigated more crashes during this New Year's holiday than last year, with injuries rising above New Year's 2012 levels, and almost as many deaths – six so far this year, compared to seven last year. The GSP investigated three of the fatal traffic accidents, with local agencies investigating the other three. Troopers have investigated 585 accidents as of daybreak today, Jan. 1, which included 266 injuries and three deaths. During last year's entire 102-hour holiday, the Department of Public Safety investigated 296 accidents. Those accidents included 172 injuries and 7 deaths. Heat Takes Toll on High School Athletes

Roswell area schools are taking precautions when it comes to students playing sports in the late summer heat.

The deaths of two Georgia high school football players have Roswell area coaches taking the heat into account as they gear up for a competitive season. Practice may make perfect, but winning isn't everything considering the cost - Forest Jones of Locust Grove and Donteria Searcy of Fitzgerald, Ga. each fell victim to the intense heat after practicing with their football teams recently, reports Fox Sports. But local football coaches insist they are doing everything they can to prevent similar tragedies from happening in Roswell.  "We are currently practicing at 5:45 a.m. and are generally off of the field by 8:30 a.m. at the latest," Roswell High School Head Football Coach Justin Sanderson said.
