The supermarket giant made a recent donation to the local Habitat for Humanity branch.
Habitat for Humanity – North Central Georgia received a check from Publix Super Markets Charities in the amount of $50,000. The funds were awarded in the form of a grant to be used towards building a Habitat home. Publix Super Markets Charities has been a supporter of Habitat North Central Georgia for many years. They have helped to build six previous homes. Several Publix Super Market employees have benefited from the program and have purchased Habitat homes over the years. Habitat for Humanity – North Central Georgia is a non-profit, Christian housing ministry that builds simple, decent homes for purchase by low income families who demonstrate a capacity for responsible homeownership. The Ed Isakson/Alpharetta Family YMCA is joining Georgia Power in its Operation Care Package program.
Caring is the mission of the Ed Isakson/Alpharetta Family YMCA and that care is extending overseas in Operation Care Package, a YMCA and Georgia Power initiative. A decorative bin was be placed in the front lobby of the YMCA, which includes Roswell families as members, to collect items for care packages to military troops overseas. Children in the Y's summer day camp decorated the boxes and will help collect items for the care packages. They even wrote speeches to introduce the initiative to the community and to encourage participation. Andrew Boyd, age five, is already a successful volunteer for the Drake House of Roswell.
One of the Drake House’s most effective volunteers is under the table. He hasn’t been drinking; he’s literally under the table. Five-year-old Andrew Boyd decided the table was the perfect spot to regain his bearings after awakening from an afternoon nap. Fully revived, Boyd eventually rights himself and heads to check out the Drake House pantry. But he's not looking for a mid-day snack, it’s already dawning on him that the donated goods there are the lifeline of Drake House residents. The Drake House is a Roswell organization that supplies temporary apartment housing for moms with minor children. The organization offers women 128 days of free housing, giving mothers in need a way to keep their family intact and stabilize their financial …

North Fulton Hospital used the Power of Pink to raise almost $20,000 for Susan G. Komen for the Cure. CEO Debbie Keel and Lindsey Harber, director of Business Development of North Fulton Hospital, presented a check to Kelly Dolan, the executive director of the Greater Atlanta affiliate for $19,773. The donation encompasses the proceeds of the Power of Pink, the breast cancer awareness luncheon hosted by the hospital last month. “To raise such a significant amount of money at an inaugural event is a point of pride for the hospital,” said Keel. “We could not have done it without our generous sponsors, the involvement of the community and the efforts of our Women’s Advisory Board.” The event was held at the Country Club of Roswell, where …

Back to school means time for supplies and perhaps a new backpack for the kids. But for some parents, the return to the classroom isn't that welcome because they don't have the money in the family budget to buy new school supplies. North Fulton Community Charities (NFCC) hosts its annual Back to School Health and Wellness Fair on Saturday, Aug. 13 to make sure low-income and disadvantaged children start school with the supplies they need. The business organization is holding its annual food drive to benefit North Fulton Community Charities.
Once the school ends for the year, a whole lot of children start going hungry. These children rely on breakfast and lunch at their schools. But with school out for the summer, they suddenly have very little to eat. The Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce recognized this and four years ago started what's now an annual food drive. The drive started yesterday, Monday, June 13, and ends on Friday, June 17 with a collection at First Citizens Bank on Haynes Bridge Road, right in front of the chamber offices. Roswell Police Department officers Zac Frommer and Jamie Major are coordinating donations for the public safety personnel in St. Landry Parish, Louisiana and surrounding communities that have been affected by the Mississippi River flooding. North Fulton Community Charities benefitted greatly from the recent Stamp Out Hunger Campaign Drive, held May 14.
They asked; you answered. The 19th Annual Stamp Out Hunger Campaign Drive held May 14 did a great deal to fill the pantries at North Fulton Community Charities (NFCC). The drive, the nation’s single largest, supports local food pantries throughout the country. Here locally, that means donations left at mailboxes throughout North Fulton went to benefit NFCC. The organization recently announced that it received 16 tons of food because of the drive. According to NFCC, the food drive is vital since food requests in the summer increase with children home from school while donations dwindle.
