Fellowship Gets Approval on Design of New Lights, Sound System

The Roswell City Council overturned a failed design approval on Monday night.

Roswell City Council went ahead and approved the design of the proposed sound system and stadium lighting for Fellowship Christian School after the initial proposal failed to make it through the Roswell Design Review Board because of a tie vote. When an Oct. 4 vote by the DRB resulted in a 2-2 tie vote and no way to break it with board members absent, the application was denied by default. Not satisfied to let the proposed design die, Fellowship appealed the decision and took it to city council. Representatives for Fellowship Christian told city council that the design included four stadium lighting poles, two on each side of the field at the 15 yard line and the goal line. Council was assured that light louvers would prevent the stadium …

No Surprise on this decision. The council did question what would happen if the decibels from the PA system exceeded the limit or the lighting bled ? The Mayor said they would receive a citation. I doubt that would happen. FCS had 48 outstanding violations on conditions for use of the property for 5 years and never received one citation. So their attitude seems to be that they will do what ever …   more ›

Fellowship Wraps Up Season with 40-6 Win over SACA

Another successful chapter in Fellowship Christian School football history has been completed.

Led by a spirited group of nine seniors playing their final game, the Fellowship Christian Paladins won a  40-6 region crossover victory over Southwest Atlanta Christian at Paladin Field to wrap up a 5-5 season. It marks the first time in school history the team has finished with an actual .500 record and is only the third time the Paladins have reached five wins in a season. The Paladins (5-5 overall and 1-5 in Region play in 2011) set a school record with an 11-2 mark in 2007 and finished 5-6 in 2005. “The seniors have set the bar high here,” FCS head coach Hunter Chadwick said after the game. “They helped me roam the hallways and encourage the younger kids to play football. They have showed all season long what it means to be a good …

Paladins Look for Fifth Win Tonight

FCS travels to Pace Academy on Friday night in road finale game.

The Fellowship Christian School varsity football team is looking to reach five wins in a season for only the third time in school history as the club enters Friday night’s game at Pace Academy. The Paladins, who will host Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy at Paladin Field in a crossover game on Friday, Nov. 4 at 4 p.m., posted a school-best 11-2 record in 2007. FCS has now recorded four victories in one season four times in school history, including this season’s 4-4 mark. The school posted a 4-6 record in 2008, finished 4-7 in 2006 and went 5-6 in 2005. The Knights, also 4-4 overall but 3-2 in Region games, pose a tough assignment for the Paladins.  “They are a really good football team,” FCS head coach Hunter Chadwick said about the …

Fellowship Falls to Holy Innocents’, 34-7

Paladins to Face Southwest Atlanta Christian on Senior Night, Oct. 21.

Last Friday’s game against Holy Innocents’ will be chalked up as a learning experience for the Fellowship Christian School varsity football team. The Paladins did not turn the ball over against the Golden Bears but lost 34-7 at Paladin Field. “There is a positive,” head coach Hunter Chadwick said of the turnover-free game. “We did hang on to the football, but overall the game was not good for us. Our slow start really hurt us. I don’t know what it was, but we came out flat. Our kids were not mentally prepared tonight, but that’s not their fault. It’s our job as coaches to have them ready.” Holy Innocents’ showed why it was ranked 10th among Single A schools in Georgia prior to Friday’s game. The Golden Bears improved to 4-0 in the Region …

Fellowship Christian Wins Battle of Paladins

FCS snaps two game skid with 21-14 victory over Pinecrest Academy Paladins.

Friday’s victory gives the Fellowship Christian School Paladins three wins in a season for the first time since the club finished 4-6 in 2008. And that makes Fellowship Christian School varsity football coach Hunter Chadwick very happy. “It does feel good to be 3-and-2,” Chadwick said after Friday night’s 21-14 victory over Pinecrest Academy. “But I try not to focus on the scoreboard or our record too much. Getting better each week is what we strive for. And we are getting better every week.” FCS, 1-2 in Region play this season, is coming off consecutive 2-8 campaigns, including Chadwick’s first year as head coach in 2009. Fellowship scored a pair of touchdowns in a span of 2:02 in the first quarter and Blais Furse scored the eventual game…

Heat Takes Toll on High School Athletes

Roswell area schools are taking precautions when it comes to students playing sports in the late summer heat.

The deaths of two Georgia high school football players have Roswell area coaches taking the heat into account as they gear up for a competitive season. Practice may make perfect, but winning isn't everything considering the cost - Forest Jones of Locust Grove and Donteria Searcy of Fitzgerald, Ga. each fell victim to the intense heat after practicing with their football teams recently, reports Fox Sports. But local football coaches insist they are doing everything they can to prevent similar tragedies from happening in Roswell.  "We are currently practicing at 5:45 a.m. and are generally off of the field by 8:30 a.m. at the latest," Roswell High School Head Football Coach Justin Sanderson said. "We then move inside for either …

Friday Night Lights For Fellowship Christian

The Roswell City Council voted 4-2 in favor of granting Fellowship Christian School permission to build a 1,500 seat football stadium complete with lights, a press box and a public address system.

It took until 1 a.m. Tuesday morning for the Roswell City Council to approve a measure granting Fellowship Christian School permission to build a 1,500 seat football stadium complete with lights, a press box and a public address system thanks to a vote of 4-2. Council members Nancy Diamond, Betty Price, Becky Wynn and Jerry Orlans voted in favor of the resolution, while Kent Igleheart and Rich Dippolito voted against it at the end of a very long and somewhat heated meeting.  The ruling reversed a decision made by the council back in 2006 denying the school permission to build a lighted stadium. Back then, FCS took their fight all the way to the Georgia Supreme Court and lost. "I think the city did the right thing," said Don Rolader, the …

So the City of Roswell spent years and hundreds of thouands of dollars going to the Supreme COurt of Georgia to preventing FSC from doing what they just voted to allow the to do? I guess it is obvious that zoning codes and agreements mean nothing with our current city council. I think it is time to replace them   more ›

Woodstock Road Residents Upset with Fellowship Stadium

Though they were ultimately not favored, residents living near Fellowship Christian School spoke out against the school's new stadium.

Many of the residents nearest to Fellowship Christian School are not happy today with the decision made by the Roswell City Council last night allowing the school to add a new stadium to its grounds. The neighborhoods most directly affected are Devereaux Downs, Barrington Manor, Greenway Hills, Broughton Park and Glenns of Crabapple. Though naysayers were ultimately not favored, among their chief complaints to council during the meeting was traffic, noise and residual light that is expected to come with the new stadium. Several residents representing those neighborhoods pointed out the problems with noise that would be created from the proposed stadium during football games and marching bands.  Andy Brown, a resident of Broughton Park …
