The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra presented its All-American Celebration in Alpharetta at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre on Independence Day.
The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra continued its summer season in Alpharetta at Verizon Wireless Ampitheatre on Wednesday night with what has become a tradition over the past five years with a July 4th concert. The U.S. Army Chorus lent their voices to the show, amping up the patriotic fervor when singing appropriate tunes to the concert's theme. I worried that the sound setup wouldn't be up to the task when it was at times hard to hear them over the music from the orchestra on the opening number, The Star-Spangled Banner. It could have been that I was seated at a table on the floor in the lower seating area, and the combination of being so close to the musicians and hearing them over the speakers amped up the sound. So those people in the …

Some simple steps for safe fun on the Fourth of July.
Many Americans choose to celebrate their independence and express their patriotism on the Fourth of July with fireworks and sparklers. TNT Fireworks, the nation’s largest distributor of consumer fireworks and novelty items, encourages families nationwide to follow these simple steps from the American Pyrotechnics Association (APA) to ensure their celebrations are safe: • TAKE PRECAUTIONS. Always keep a hose and a bucket of water nearby in case of emergencies. • LIGHT ONE AT A TIME. NEVER light two or more fireworks or sparklers at the same time. • KEEP IT OUTSIDE. Only use fireworks and sparklers outdoors on flat, hard surfaces in clear areas and away from houses, buildings and dry grass. • HAVE ADULT SUPERVISION. NEVER allow young …

The display at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre complements 'Celebrate American,' the orchestra's concert theme.
Once the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra concluded its summer season opening concert at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre, it was time to "Celebrate America" in another traditional way: fireworks. Despite the downpour that started shortly after the ASO took the stage and remained well after the concert was over, quite a few people stuck around for the show. But even those heading straight for their cars could enjoy the fireworks exploding over the amphitheatre grounds. This was the second fireworks display in Alpharetta on the Fourth of July. Earlier in the evening concertgoers could clearly hear the city's fireworks booming over Wills Park.
Even though storms put a literal damper on Roswell's Fourth of July festivities, people still had fun.
The fireworks at Roswell High School on July 4 may have been delayed for a little while until later than anticipated, but the fun wasn't put on hold. Plenty of residents and visitors capped off their holiday festivities by hanging out on the school's lawn prior to the fireworks start at 9:50 p.m. When the fireworks finally did start, they were everything we expect from a 4th of July event. "They were spectacular even though it was raining during the entire shoot. Hats off to the pyrotechnics company that made it happen," said Roswell Fire Chief Ricky Spencer.
The Georgia Optometric Association is urging parents to practice fireworks safety this Fourth of July.
The Georgia Optometric Association has seen it all, quite literally. One of the most common eye injuries is due to unsafe handling of sparklers on the Fourth of July. For most Americans, the Fourth of July holiday is marked by backyard barbeques and patriotic fireworks displays. Unfortunately, the fun can be cut short when fireworks are used inappropriately and cause serious injuries. Some of the most common fireworks injuries are eye abrasions, lacerations, contusions and foreign matter in the eye. The majority of these cases are related to the use of sparklers.  “Celebrating the Fourth of July with fireworks is a great American tradition, but safety needs to be the top priority,” said Dr. Tom Spetalnick, president of the Georgia …
