North Fulton residents have been stopping by First Citizens Bank on Haynes Bridge Road to drop off food in the Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce Summer Food Drive, but organizers say there's still more need. Summer donations are low because so many people are on vacation, according to Kendra Plotkin of the chamber, who organized the food drive. The lack of subsidized lunches over the summer because school is out of session makes the need great for the area's children in poorer homes.. Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church partners with Harry's Farmers Market to hand out pumpkin pies at its food pantry.
Food is a big part of the holidays for most people. However, there are still those, even in North Fulton, who wonder where their next meal will come from. Fortunately, Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Roswell is helping to answer that question for some local residents. "We get food at a discounted rate from the Atlanta Community Food Bank," said Pleasant Hill Food Pantry Ministry Leader, Gloria Shelton, "and then we give it out to whoever needs it." Since its founding in 1979, the Atlanta Community Food Bank (ACFB) has worked to provide nourishment for those in need.
