The Clean Air Campaign and Gov. Nathan Deal are observing Air Quality Awareness Week to reduce smog, commuter stress.
Roswell commuters waste hunders of thousands of gallons of fuel each year because of traffic congestion on the GA 400 corridor, according to Tedra Cheatham, executive director of the Clean Air Campaign. The organization is observing Air Quality Awareness Week along with Gov. Nathan Deal to educate Georgians about the health effects of smog in Georgia. "Air quality has gotten better. However, we still have 22 counties, the majority in Metro Atlanta, that still do not meet the federal standards for air quality," she said. Parsons Brinckerhoff was contracted by the city for $476,919 to design the early-off ramp.
The new Ga 400 off ramp at Holcomb Bridge Road will be one-of-a-kind in its forked design - sending eastbound traffic either to the current Holcomb Bridge Road intersection or allowing them to get off early onto Market Boulevard, according to a report by the Revue & News. Parsons Brinckerhoff was contracted by the city for $476,919 to design the early-off ramp, which is estimated to take around two years. Once the design phase is complete, the project will cost $3 million to actually construct. Police have cleared the package and have reopened the highway and MARTA lines.

Roswell commuters who travel on GA 400 and who are use to using the toll booth will notice a big change come this November - there will be no toll booth. The Georgia State Road and Tollway Authority said on Thursday the toll plaza will come down on November 21, reports WSBTV.com. Gov. Deal: GA 400 Tolls End in December 2013 Last summer Gov. Nathan Deal promised an end to the tolls by Dec. 1, 2013, saying that bonds issued by the state will be paid off by that time, allowing the tolls to be removed. But it looks like that measure has been moved to a week before Thanksgiving, weather permitting. There's a proposal to construct a new interchange on Georgia 400 in south Forsyth County.
Just to the north of Roswell's Holcomb Bridge Road exit on Georgia 400, a new interchange at McGinnis Ferry Road, in south Forsyth County, may be on the horizon, according to a press release from the Georgia House of Representatives. The Georgia Department of Transportation on Thursday approved an Interchange Justification Report (IJR) on the proposed project much to the delight of the Forsyth County Legislative Delegation. The accident caused police to close lanes for several hours on GA 400 and the northbound entrance ramp from Haynes Bridge Road.
UPDATED 10:30 a.m., April 12: A 67-year-old Cumming man has been identified as the victim in a fatal accident in Alpharetta on the morning of April 11. Edward Kivlin, 67, of Cumming, was dead at the scene, according to Alpharetta Department of Public Safety spokesman George Gordon. The initial investigation by the traffic enforcement unit indicates a red Honda Civic left its northbound lane on the entrance ramp to GA 400 from Haynes Bridge Road. It struck a maroon Nissan Pathfinder traveling in an adjacent lane. Tuesday evening might have been a beautiful time for a walk or a bicycle ride. Instead, hundreds of local residents were focused on another mode of transportation; and more specifically, a key highway for North Fulton drivers - Ga. 400. The activity building at the Cottage School in Roswell was full of local drivers eager to discuss one of the area’s hot button topics: express lanes on Ga. 400.
