Roswell's Unemployment Rate Increases to 6.5%

In this same spot a few weeks ago the rate was reported as the same, but since then the Georgia Department of Labor revised figures to reveal the city had a 6.3 percent unemployment rate in January.

Roswell's unemployment rate rose to 6.5 percent in February, rising by two-tenths of a percent in a month. Don't tell Alpharetta, but after the jobless figures were revised for January, it turns out Roswell had the lowest unemployment rate for January at 6.3 percent. But the city had to share that rate with Sandy Springs, which also had a lower figure after the revisions by the Georgia Department of Labor released today. Roswell had 95 more people out of work in February than in January. But the workforce also dropped by 94, with 50,633 people in the labor force last month. A year ago Roswell had hundreds more workers unemployed, giving it a slightly higher jobless rate of 6.8 percent. City                     Rate Alpharetta             6…

Roswell's Jobless Rate Slips to Second Best in Georgia

The city's unemployment rate of 6.5 percent was only behind Alpharetta of all municipalities measured by the Georgia Department of Labor.

Roswell's unemployment rose slightly to 6.5 percent in January 2013, letting it slip slightly behind Alpharetta for the lowest unemployment rate in Georgia. Roswell, which has the largest labor force in North Fulton above the Chattahoochee River, tied Sandy Springs for the second lowest unemployment rate at 6.5 percent. That was an increase of two tenths of a percent from December 2012. But, like most cities in Georgia, a year ago the unemployment rate was even higher at 6.8 percent. The city had 50,633 workers in its civilian labor force, a drop of less than 100 from December 2012. The number of unemployed rose by almost 200, helping create that one-tenth of a percent increase in the jobless rate. City                     Rate Alpharetta…

Roswell Ties Alpharetta for Lowest Unemployment in Georgia

Sandy Springs joins two other North Fulton cities at 6.4 percent unemployment in preliminary figures released by the Georgia Department of Labor.

Roswell, which has the largest labor force in North Fulton above the Chattahoochee River, tied Alpharetta for lowest unemployment rate at 6.4 percent in December 2012. That was an increase of three tenths of a percent from November 2012 in figures released by the Georgia Department of Labor. But, like most cities in Georgia, a year ago the unemployment rate was even higher at 6.6 percent. The Georgia Department of Labor announced today that the preliminary unemployment rate in metro Atlanta rose to 8.4 percent in December, up four-tenths of a percentage point from 8.0 percent in November. The rate was 8.9 percent in December 2011. City                     Rate Roswell                6.4% Alpharetta             6.4% Johns Creek          7.0…

Alpharetta's Jobless Rate Lowest in Georgia, With Roswell Close Behind

North Fulton cities have some of the lowest unemployment rates in the state.

Since Alpharetta's daytime population is almost double the number of people who live in the city, it's not really a surprise that the city had the lowest unemployment rate for October of any municipality in Georgia at 6.1 percent. That doesn't make the 1,926 city residents who were unemployed last month happy. The Georgia Department of Labor released labor force data today, and other North Fulton cities fared relatively well also. Roswell's 6.4 percent jobless rate was second out of the cities of 25,000 people or more that the department measures. Sandy Springs is just a tick away at 6.5 percent. Johns Creek had the highest rate in North Fulton at 7 percent, a drop of one-tenth, though that was far below East Point's 12.4 percent jobless …

Roswell's Unemployment Rate Rises Slightly

A slight increase in the jobless rate for Roswell saw it slip to second best behind Alpharetta in preliminary July figures.

Roswell's unemployment rate remains relatively low compared to the rest of the state at 7.1 percent, but a slight increase dropped it from being the best in the state. Roswell's rate actually was worse in July than in June, when the North Fulton city had the lowest unemployment rate – 6.9 percent – of the cities surveyed by the Department of Labor. Now Alpharetta has that distinction with its 7.0 percent unemployment rate, which is unchanged from June. Roswell had 139 more people unemployed in July vs. June, but it also had 461 more people in its labor force – and 322 of them had jobs. The city's unemployment rate is still 2.6 percent better than the state's 9.7 percent unemployment, and it's the second lowest rate for any city in the …
