Hundreds of turkeys and other food items were handed out for Thanksgiving by North Fulton Community Charities volunteers.
As a result of the community’s generosity, 780 families and 150 seniors were provided food, gift cards, turkeys, and pumpkin bread by North Fulton Community Charities just in time for Thanksgiving. Over 400 volunteers helped to collect, sort, fill and distribute the food items. Families began lining up in the early morning hours the night before at the distribution site. Smiles, sore backs, tired eyes and thankful tears were all part of the special service event. “We are so blessed to live in a community that recognizes and responds to the needs of those less fortunate. Walmart recently kicked off the 2012 “12 Days of Giving” campaign by calling on Facebook users to once again nominate the nonprofits that are making an impact in their local communities and need support. Each of the “12 Days” will focus on a different giving theme, including hunger, military assistance and disaster relief. For example, the campaign empowers Americans to recognize nonprofits like those providing much needed aid to the victims of this week’s devastating storm in the Northeast as well as those supporting the communities affected by other weather events and wildfires earlier this year.
