The Country Club of Roswell and its director of instruction, Jackie Cannizzo, announce the launch of Junior Golf AcademyONE Roswell, a new fitness-focused golf program open to all junior golfers in the area. Roswell teen Kevin Wargo tied for second in the boys 15-18 division of the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour when it returned to the Georgia Club in Statham, Ga. last weekend. Throughout the two days of play the weather remained ideal and competition was stiff as a field of over 90 competitors were well aware of what was at stake: the winner of each division received an automatic bid into the 2012 tour championship and in the boys 15-18, 11-14, as well as the girls 15-18 divisions, those winners received AJGA performance stars.  Although competition remained relatively close in two of the four age divisions, the winners of the boys 15-18 and girls 15-18 divisions emerged early, and led their respective divisions throughout the tournament.  In …

A team of golfers from Atlanta will be playing for the first-ever PGA Junior League Golf Championship after winning the Regional Championship this past weekend. The team has now qualified as one of six teams that will be competing for the championship at Cog Hill Golf & Country Club outside of Chicago, Sept. 14-16. The Atlanta team defeated teams from Myrtle Beach, Indianapolis and Raleigh in matches played on Aug. 4-5 at TPC Sugarloaf in Duluth. Peruvian native Alicia Dibos has come close to winning many times in recent years at Legends Tour events across the nation. But she finally took home the trophy Monday at the inaugural Judson Invitational held at the Country Club of Roswell in Roswell. Hosted by LPGA Legend Rosie Jones and featuring a field of 30 Legends, including six Hall of Fame members, the one-day golf event boasted one of the most competitive rosters in the Tour's 11 seasons. A field of 30 LPGA legends made their way to the Country Club of Roswell Sunday to get ready for the inaugural Judson Collegiate Invitational and Legends Tour Atlanta Pro-Am hosted by 5-time Legends Tour Champion and Atlanta area resident Rosie Jones. The 2011 Swing into Action with North Fulton Community Charities (NFCC) Golf Tournament atThe Standard Club last month raised more than $51,000 for the nonprofit's Emergency Financial Assistance Program. Longtime Cobb County resident to receive PGA's highest honor on the 30th anniversary of his first major championship.
The latest chapter in the improbable golfing life of Larry Nelson will be written next week when the quiet man from Cobb County receives the highest honor accorded by the PGA of America. Nelson, who didn’t start playing golf until he returned from Vietnam, will be awarded the PGA of America's Distinguished Service Award in a ceremony on Aug. 10 at The Cobb Energy Centre. The award comes on the 93rd PGA Championship at the Atlanta Athletic Club in Johns Creek and coincides with the 30thanniversary of Nelson's first major championship. Four-time major champion Phil Mickelson and his famous left-handed swing could be seen Tuesday getting in some practice at the Atlanta Athletic Club in advance of next week's PGA Championship. The top 100 of the 102 best golfers in the field (as ranked by the Official World Golf Ranking – OWGR) are scheduled to compete next week in Johns Creek. This will be the second best field in all of golf, only beat by the 2002 PGA Championship.
