As the economy continues its slow recovery, many people continue to struggle to find and keep good jobs. However, Goodwill of North Georgia has reason to celebrate since last year, the nonprofit helped more than 10,200 people find employment through the variety of job training programs and employment services. "When you give to Goodwill or shop in our stores, you are helping people who lack education or work experience, those who have disabilities, youth, veterans and others who may be having a hard time finding employment," said Elaine Armstrong, director of public relations. Taxpayers looking to claim a deduction for charitable donations only have 10 days left to give before the end of the 2012 tax year. Goodwill of North Georgia is preparing for what will be its busiest donation rush of the year. “We always receive our heaviest volume of donations from Dec. 26 to Dec, 31. Last year we received more than 87,000 donations during the last week of the year,” says Director of Public Relations Elaine Armstrong. The organization has more than 100 locations where you can drop off items, including Hickory Flat. Goodwill of North Georgia is holding a Goodwill Hiring Event this week, beginning today, in Alpharetta. The event is seeking to fill 40 positions for its its new Forsyth County location set to open next month. According to a press release, those interested should apply in person March 19, 20 and 21 (9 a.m.-2 p.m. each day) at the Hilton Garden Inn, located at 4025 Windward Plaza in Alpharetta. Candidates must be at least 18, have valid identification, a high school diploma or equivalent, and be able to pass a pre-employment background screening and drug test. The deadline is near for those looking to claim deductions for charitable donations. Saturday, Dec. 31, is the last day donations can be applied to the 2011 tax year. Representatives from Goodwill of North Georgia are gearing up for what they say is their busiest week of the year. “We anticipate serving nearly 67,000 donors this week alone,” said Director of Public Relations Elaine Armstrong in a press release. “We encourage families to gather items now because with the hustle and bustle of the holidays, it’s easy to forget items you intended to donate.” The organization has more than 100 locations where donors can give clothing, books, furniture and other household items.
