Snow is expected across north Georgia this afternoon and tonight, according to the National Weather Service's winter weather advisory, which goes into effect at 1 p.m. and replaces the previous winter storm watch. A "cold polar air mass" is expected to spread into north Georgia as widespread rain shifts south. The result: Rain will mix with and change over to snow across portions of north Georgia, including Roswell. The heaviest snowfall would be in the northeast Georgia mountains. The city of Roswell has readied itself for the onset of winter weather headed our way Sunday and Monday.

"Many of our fire and rescue trucks are equipped with 'on spot' chains and alternate cables if the snow gets too deep," he said. Additionally, the city's Emergency Management Agency (EMA) has been actively monitoring the forecast and the radars along with the rest of North Georgia to see just how bad this predicted winter storm will be. "In the event the call volume warrants, we will activate our Emergency Operations Center to coordinate all of the city of Roswell departments as one, so that we can salt/sand the streets [and] cut trees out of the roadways if the ice accumulates," said Spencer. The EMA…

Roswell Transportation Department crews worked through the night for the past two nights de-icing road surfaces.
As Old Man Winter continues to blow bitter cold weather our way, city officials and local companies are working in conjunction to make sure residents stay safe and warm. Between Sunday and early Monday morning, the Roswell Transportation Department responded to nine calls regarding icing problems within the city. "Crews worked an overnight shift to respond to the calls," said Roswell Community Relations Manager, Julie Breckbill. "These crews also check the roads for ice patches throughout the city." One area that had some difficulties on Monday morning was Mountain Park Road, which dealt with downed trees and power lines. Mountain Park Elementary School was without power for several hours Monday morning. The school managed to get by on …
