What is your business and how long have you been doing it? I am an independent jewelry artist and instructor, designing and creating jewelry for the past ten years. In 2008, I left my job as Dean of Students at a private high school to pursue making Rochelle Nation Jewelry my new full time career. It was a challenging change, but I absolutely love my new job and the creative outlet jewelry making brings to my life. What makes you good at what you do? Being passionate about what you do makes a huge difference. I wake up every morning excited about what’s going to happen that day. I also love being my own boss. This week we meet young entrepreneur Parker Salinas, the brains and talent behind Cantabz Eco-Friendly Bracelets
What is your business and how long have you been doing it? My business is called Cantabz Eco-Friendly Bracelets. I make bracelets using recycled soda can tops and donate money to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. I've been doing it for two years. What makes you good at what you do? I think I'm good at what I do because I like making the bracelets, helping people and because the disease is something that my mom has experienced. What do you enjoy doing in your free time? I dance, play with my dog, sister, brother and friends and bake. What new hobbies or classes have you recently taken up? I've recently started learning karate. Roswell resident Rochelle Nation is working with her business partner to make jewelry using tarballs from last year's Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
Roswell resident Rochelle Nation and her business partner, Shondra Leigh of Decatur, are helping to turn a negative into something more positive by making use of the oil from last year's Deepwater Horizon spill. The team, which does business under the names Rochelle Nation Jewelry and Shondra Leigh Fun Fine Jewelry, are using the tarballs from the oil disaster in the jewelry pieces they create. The oil in the jewelry is sealed under crystal quartz. It's then encased in refined, 100 percent recycled silver, gold and refined leathers from vintage coats. But the pieces are more than just uniquely beautiful, they're also helping the people of the Gulf Coast since a portion of the proceeds go to a non-profit that is assisting people affected by…
