Local teachers who've made a difference in environmental education are eligible for the award.
Keep Roswell Beautiful is now accepting nominations for its annual Educator of the Year Award, according to the city of Roswell. Organizers of the award are looking for nominees who work at a public or private school in Roswell, demonstrate exemplary efforts in environmental education and have helped keep the city beautiful during the 2012-2013 school year in some way. To make a nomination, the city requests you submit a one-page Microsoft Word document which details the following: Anyone in contact with local teachers - including students, PTA members, other teachers and administrators - are encouraged to send in nominations. Updated, Thursday, Jan. 3, 3:03 p.m. - Roswell residents are invited to participate in the 23rd annual Bring One For The Chipper Christmas tree recycling event on Jan. 5. Organized by Keep Georgia Beautiful, this statewide initiative reuses trees by chipping them into mulch that is then used for playgrounds, local government beautification projects and individual yards. This year’s two drop-off locations are The Home Depot on Holcomb Bridge Road in the Holcomb Woods Shopping Center and The Home Depot on Woodstock Road across from Publix. On your mark, get set, duck! On Sept. 22, more than 1,000 plastic ducks will race 150 yards down Big Creek along Oxbo Road during The Great Duck Race – an annual fund-raiser that supports Keep Roswell Beautiful. Rivers Alive, Georgia's annual river clean-up, comes to North Fulton on Sept. 22. Sponsored by Keep Roswell Beautiful (KRB), the city of Roswell, the Chattahoochee Nature Center, the city of Alpharetta and the Alpharetta Natural Resources Commission, the clean-up will take place from 8:30 a.m.-11 a.m. followed by a cookout at 11:30 a.m. at Riverside Park. The event will be held rain or shine. Georgia has more than 70,100 miles of rivers and streams that need your help to stay clean. Individuals, neighborhoods, scout troops, schools, churches, clubs and service organizations are being asked to pull together to make a difference for the Chattahoochee River. The local organization received the Keep America Beautiful 2011 President's Circle Award.
For the nineth year in a row, Keep Roswell Beautiful was awarded the Keep America Beautiful President's Circle Award. The local organization has repeatedly won the award because it continues to participate in nationwide events like the Great American Cleanup and America Recycles Day, as well as provide training for its executive director, Kim Weber and board members.
