Friday's Centennial vs. Etowah game will be on GPB-TV, - Channel 8 on most systems - at 8:05 p.m., with pregame live from Centennial at 7:30 p.m.
A new era of Centennial High School football kicked off last week as Jeff Carlberg roamed the sidelines in his first official game as Knights head coach. The former Alpharetta defensive coordinator brought with him to Centennial defensive intensity as well as the spread offense in the hopes of helping the Knights’ program break through with a deep playoff run. Embracing Change The offense performed well over the summer in various 7-on-7 camps and in a recent scrimmage against Marist. Senior quarterback Chase Rosenberg is thriving in the new system, building a rapport with his receivers that should help the Knights challenge for a spot in the playoffs. The Marist scrimmage was the first chance for the offense to really show itself against …

Big win pulls Centennial to a 4-4 record, 3-1 in Region 6-AAAAA.
It was a crisp October Homecoming night and with precision the Knights of Centennial High School (4-4, 3-1 in Region 6-AAAAA) stuffed the visiting North Forsyth Raiders (1-7) for a 19-13 victory. In a game dominated by Centennial's defense and the stellar duo of quarterback Jimmy Meyer and wide receiver Wade Francis, the Knights made sure that the Homecoming celebration would continue through the weekend. After a short punt by North Forsyth's Cole Allison, Meyer threw a screen pass to Homecoming king Zietrick Smith at the 38-yard line. Smith looked like he was in trouble, but with a few quick moves and missed tackles, Smith darted for the end zone and put the Knights up 7-0 late in the first quarter. The Knights defense continued to …

The home team wins its second game, while the visitors haven't won since the season opener.
Centennial came back from a 14-0 halftime deficit, then blocked a Milton extra-point try in the final minute, to beat the visiting Eagles 21-20 Thursday. The Knights (2-4) evened their Region 6-AAAAA record to 1-1. Milton fell to 1-4 overall, 0-1 in the region. The evenly played game saw two touchdowns scored in the final 2:18. First, Cyril Teal scored on a 25-yard run to give the Knights their first lead of the game at 21-14. Then, Milton quarterback Colin McElroy completed a 21-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Jenkins with 35 seconds left to make it 21-20. But Chris Mills' point-after was blocked, securing the Knights' victory. Milton got off to a quick start taking a 7-0 lead when running back Treyvon Paulk ran 57 yards for a touchdown at …

The Knights struggled to gain any momentum.
The Centennial Knights were defeated, 70-20, Friday night by the undefeated West Forsyth Wolverines, who didn’t punt the ball once as that team's offense exploded for 541 yards Friday night. The Wolverines at one point scored 21 points on a total of five offensive plays, including a 31-yard touchdown run by Blake Roberts. They took a 42-6 lead into halftime. Junior quarterback AJ Erdely was phenomenal, going 11 of 14 on 168 yards passing and four touchdowns. Junior tailback Jake Wieczorek worked the end around all day on Centennial, rushing for 135 yards and four touchdowns. Blake Roberts found the end zone twice as well and finished the night with 78 yards on eight carries. On each drive, Centennial struggled to gain any momentum, but…

High School Football Report: North Cobb Warriors defeat the Centennial Knights, Friday, Sept. 2.
It didn’t take long for Centennial Knights fans to lose enthusiasm and ultimately be silenced completely as the North Cobb Warriors rolled into town winning the game, 21-17. The game's shocking start was a hint at the home team's ultimate derailing, when at the opening kickoff, North Cobb’s stellar wide receiver Jalen Williams returned the kick for a touchdown. A stunned Centennial crowd saw North Cobb take a 7-0 lead only 13 seconds into the game. The sour faces in the home crowd gave off the impression that Centennial fans were in for a long evening. However, Centennial did get their offense rolling and were able to put together a nice drive early in the second quarter. North Cobb held Centennial at their 15-yard line, forcing senior …

Centennial's season-opening football game provided a lot of excitement on the field and in the stands.
The Knights rode in to spoil the Spartans’ season opener with a 27-22 comeback win at Campbell Stadium in the final minutes of the game on Friday night. The Spartans scored a pair of second quarter touchdowns to build a 14-0 lead, but watched as the Knights found the end zone on three of their next four possessions to take a 21-14 lead entering the final quarter. Back came the Spartans, however, as quarterback Austin Green’s 1-yard scoring run, and subsequent 2-point conversion scamper put Campbell up 22-21 with 7:16 remaining. The Knights didn’t quit, though, as they controlled the clock and maneuvered downfield to score the winning touchdown with under a minute to play. Quarterback Jimmy Meyer scored on a 1-yard sneak with 44 seconds …

Centennial falters down the stretch in consolation game
After missing a chance to play for the championship at the buzzer on Monday night, the Centennial Knights finished a disappointing fourth in the Campbell Holiday Classic after losing to Booker T. Washington 63-52 in Tuesday's consolation game. The Knights let a close game get away from them in the fourth quarter as Washington fed on a flurry of Centennial turnovers to build a double digit lead in the game's final minute. The Knights led by as many as five points in the first half and were within one point at 45-44 with about four minutes left in the game. But that's when things rapidly deteriorated. "We had way too many turnovers," said Centennial head coach Joe Eineker. "We've had trouble putting a complete game together. We play well for…

Ann, you're absolutely right! Since it was an away game, we had to rely on info from the Marietta Patch and Centennial fan updates. You're the first to give us anything extra, so thank you!!! Feel free to e-mail photos/stats during and after each game (scott.bernarde@patch.com), or let us know of a parent/student who might like to cover games for us, like Roswell HS did. http://patch.com/A-ly3r …   more ›
