Act Together Ministries has been chosen as the recipient of the 36th Annual Lawrence Awards charity benefit. The event will be held Sept. 9 at Naylor Hall in Roswell and follows an American Idol format where singers will compete for studio time. Act Together Ministries is a children’s charity in Alpharetta. Act Together serves children in distress, specifically foster children, children from low-income families and children in single parent homes. Programs and services are open to families throughout the north metro Atlanta area. The Lawrence Awards began many years ago with a local Atlanta-area pianist, Larry Williams, who had a large following of singers who performed with him at local piano bars. Sunny and David Bailey realized their dream of purchasing Naylor Hall three years ago. Last week, they realized another dream of buying original artwork from a Dutch artist.
For 20 years, Sunny Bailey led guests through Naylor Hall's 19th-century rooms covered in forest green carpet. In between organizing weddings, bar mitvahs and corporate parties, she discreetly lifted a corner of the rug to make sure the original hardwoods were there. They were. Then three years ago, Bailey finally realized a longtime dream. She and her husband, David, purchased the antebellum mansion that sits on Canton Street, just down from most of the restaurants. One of the first things they did was pull up the carpet and restore the original heart pine floorboards. Since buying Naylor Hall, Sunny’s job has not changed.
