Leave Food Donations Near Your Mailbox

The "nation's largest single-day food drive" is this Saturday.

Millions of American families need food assistance, and the National Association of Letter Carriers this Saturday will hold what organizers say is the nation's largest single-day food drive. The association collected more than 73 million pounds of food during last year's Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, according to Michael Miles with the United States Postal Service. More than 200,000 pounds of that was collected in metro Atlanta, he said. McAlister's Deli Launches Contest for Trip to NYC

Restaurant, which has a Roswell location, offering a chance to win a trip.

McAlister's Deli, which has a location on Market Boulevard in Roswell, has launched a sweepstakes for folks to win a trip to New York's Mississippi in the Park event. Contestants must go to either the restaurant chain's website or Facebook page and answer a quiz about what they are craving that day. The contest is open through May 17.

My Mom is the BEST! She once broke her ankle on the coast in Texas which wasn't a formula for good things considering he advanced Diabetes. The pain medicine made her so delirious, she threatened to murder all the nurses. What a ham she is! All this before her wound became septic and they amputated her left leg even. How Did Roswell Fare on State's New School Report Card?

Ga. Dept. of Education releases new performance indicator.

Today the Georgia Department of Education released its first Georgia College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) that measures elementary, middle and high schools on a 100-point scale. According to a press release, "the CCRPI is the new accountability system that replaces the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) measurement in Georgia." The department stated that the average score for Georgia’s elementary schools is 83.4, middle schools is 81.4 and high schools is 72.6. Roswell Schools Make Newsweek 'Best' List

Centennial and Roswell rank in Newsweek's best 2,000 high schools.

Roswell schools have aced Newsweek/The Daily Beast's list of best 2,000 public high schools in America. According to the list, out of the top 2,000 public high schools in the country, Centennial High School ranked No. 913 and Roswell High ranked No. 1038. Nearby, Northview ranks at No. 197, Johns Creek comes in at No. 214, and Chattahoochee is No. 518, while Alpharetta High came in at 739 and Milton High was No. 975. Newsweek’s ranking highlights high schools across the nation that have proven to be the most effective in turning out college-ready grads. The list is based on six components:
