Avoid Historic Roswell Early Saturday Morning

A run for charity will shut down parts of Crabapple Road and Canton Street.

Expect some traffic delays along Canton Street and Crabapple Road in Roswell on Saturday morning from 7 a.m.-9:30 a.m. as the Historic Roswell 10 Miler and 5K, benefiting Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta races through. Canton Street to State Route 92 will be affected for the whole run since the 5k and the end of the 10 miler happen along that stretch of road. However, the course has been structured so that residents can get out of neighborhoods - either through alternate routes or during breaks in runners. Certain streets should be avoided until the times they reopen, listed below: For further information and to see the race’s route map on the city's Cone Zone webpage.

Roswell Woman Gives Back to Community in 'Style'

Maria Walden-Sullivan has built a life around giving to charity. Her Roswell consignment shop, Vintage & Vogue, supports Atlanta non-profits and she has plans to expand.

Maria Walden-Sullivan was on vacation in New Mexico two summers ago when it hit her; she knew how she could raise money for charity, even in a dismal economy: consignment. Two weeks later, she was driving through the Roswell Square and saw a store for rent. It was serendipity. She took it. With no retail background, but plenty of experience in charitable fundraising, she opened Vintage & Vogue, an upscale consignment shop, with the goal of donating proceeds to Atlanta-area charities. “I had always been on so many boards and I’d always been asking people for money. I’ve always shopped in consignment stores and I thought what better way to ask people [to give] than to reach into their closets instead of their pockets,” she told Roswell Patch…

Sample Craft Beers at Barrington Hall in April

Back by popular demand, Ale Yeah! will host its second craft beer tasting at the historic home on April 12.

Local history will meet what's current in beer when Roswell's Ale Yeah! hosts a tasting at Southern Trilogy home, Barrington Hall, on April 12. Several types of beers will be available for sampling, along with hors d'ouevres at the local merchant's second tasting event, according to the city website. But if you want to go, you better make your reservations now: the response was so overwhelming for the first tasting, people had to be turned away. To handle the crowd this time organizers will hold two sessions, Friday, April 12. The cost of admission is $20 for either session, but advance reservations are required. Call 770-992-2246 for more information or to reserve your spot.

INC Autentico Closes to Become 'OPULENT'

F&H Food Trading Group will present its latest concept in historic Roswell dining using the space that used to be INC Autentico.

Canton Street may have lost a fairly popular restaurant recently, but owners Hicham Azhari and Fikret Kovac are hoping the new dining concept they plan to replace INC Autentico with will be even more popular. Azhari and Kovac's F&H Food Trading Group is set to open OPULENT - its fourth Canton Street endeavor - during early April. And once again, the group's culinary director Bob McDonough will helm the "global-inspired" kitchen, with the help of Executive Chef Andrew Long. "It’s the right time for us to bring OPULENT to Canton Street and we’re excited to introduce Atlantans to this concept," said Azhari, in a written statement. "Our menu is inspired by our travels, the foods we love, places we’ve eaten and people we’ve encountered." …

What Will Happen to Frazier Street Tenants?

If luxury apartments are approved, current residents will have to move; but where?

(Editor's Note: This article has been updated to reflect the correct working title for the proposed complex, which is "Canton Street City Walk.") As the city looks to capitalize on the energy surrounding its historic district, a proposal to build luxury apartments on Frazier Street has some questioning where current tenants and others will find affordable housing in Roswell. Affordability aside, the aging Frazier Street Apartments have been a visible issue locally for quite some time. "This is one of the areas that has been identified for years as needing redevelopment," said Councilwoman Nancy Diamond. "It came close just before the economic downturn and then was put on hold." So the Frazier Street Apartments have stayed. Even with little…

Well said, Anathema. I have been speaking out for almost 40 years . But the sounds of silence have been deafening. Since the decision makers don't live in the Historic area of our city, they make decisions without a real knowledge of life here. Not for the restaurnant goers, or the tourists but the residents from all walks of life, all ages, all races, all religioins who choose to live smaller on…   more ›

UPDATED: Historic Roswell Restaurant Sugo Closes

A new restaurant will take its place.

Updated: Monday, March 18; 8:01 a.m. - While several new restaurants have been opening in Roswell recently, Sugo in the historic district is closing its doors. In an official statement sent to Patch, Castellucci Hospitality Group President Federico Castellucci III said: Ten years ago, our family opened Sugo in Roswell. Over the years we’ve participated in many celebrations with you, and we’ve enjoyed every opportunity we’ve had to serve you. Over the last ten years, our family business has grown, and we’ve added more restaurants in locations all over the city. The Clock Tower Place staple was sold to Dominick's Italian Restaurant, "after much deliberation," said Castellucci. Sugo has no current plans to reopen in another Roswell location, …

Future of Frazier Street: Luxury Apartments Coming?

Several meetings regarding the area are on the city's calendar.

If you have a specific view on the future of Frazier Street Apartments, you'll soon get your chance to share it when the city convenes several meetings regarding the property's future and proposed plans for luxury apartments. According to Roswell Planning & Zoning Director Brad Townsend, the proposed development would be for 320 "shacked flats" in a complex that could be three to four stories tall, if allowed via the Groveway Overlay conditional approval of the Roswell City Council. The complex plans call for a 45 foot height maximum, 9-feet under the overlay's 54 foot allowance. Lennar Multi-Family Investors LLC hopes to raze and rebuild the current 150-unit apartment complex on 10.6 acres near the historic district. The project - …

I agree with the other comments. I think, though, as a caring community we should ensure that the developer is meaningfully engaged in relocation for the current residents to affordable housing. Since the city is the only one really in the position to enforce and oversee such activities, I would hope the city would be committed to assist in this matter.   more ›
