Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) will select a national winner on Wednesday, May 22.
Centennial High School grad Jordan Wylie, who now plays for Emory University, was named the Atlantic South Region’s Senior Player of the Year by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). According to information from Emory, Wylie, a two-time All-American, has a career 69-38 record in singles play, tied for the 16th-most victories in school history and good for a career winning percentage of .645. She has also contributed with a career doubles record of 62-34 for a .646 winning percentage. Wylie has been named to the all-University Athletic Association (UAA) team each year of her career, including berths to the first team for her play at both third singles and second doubles this year. Mimosa and Holcomb Bridge are two of the 12 schools involved in the Fulton County Schools project.
Two Roswell schools will now offer an alternative school breakfast, thanks to a more than $224,500 grant from the American Association of School Administrators to Fulton County Schools recently. The program will be implemented in 12 high-need schools throughout the system. Mimosa Elementary will offer "Breakfast in the Classroom," a program where students pick up a bagged breakfast from the cafeteria and take it to their classroom to eat before the school day begins. Holcomb Bridge Middle will offer "Grab-n-Go" breakfasts. This model allows students to pick up a bagged breakfast from the cafeteria or from portable kiosks located throughout the school. Fellowship Christian School (FCS) students recently participated in the observance of the National Day of Prayer at Roswell City Hall. FCS students sang America the Beautiful and God Bless America. They also recited a portion of the Declaration of Independence. Sydney Herring, Katie McCrory and Sarah Finch, the FCS high school girls trio, sang The Star Spangled Banner. And Fellowship Board member Ron Haigler prayed for the Roswell business community and those employed by Roswell businesses. Special guests at the event included Roswell Mayor Jere Wood, WSB-Channel 2 reporter Mark Winne and Georgia State Senator Brandon Beach. The athletes were honored during the Sports Champions of Greater Atlanta annual banquet, Thursday, May 9.
The Sports Champions of Greater Atlanta held its 10th Annual Banquet, Thursday, May 9, and four of the 19 student-athletes honored were from Roswell schools, including Centennial High School’s Amy Martin and Chase Rosenberg, as well as Blessed Trinity High School's Kourtney Keegan and Paul Stevens. The Sports Champions of Atlanta, which held its banquet at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, honors high school seniors and coaches that have helped make a positive impact on the world. The organization recognizes seniors that have excelled on the playing field, achieved a high level of excellence in their scholastics and shown great character. Registration will be held May 13-16 for a six-week Summer Transition Program offered to incoming kindergartners who either did not attend a Georgia pre-kindergarten or Head Start, or attended pre-kindergarten but need additional support to be ready for school in the fall. Fulton County Schools' summer transition program is being provided through a grant from Bright from the Start: Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning. The program is occurring throughout Georgia, but in Roswell, classes will be hosted for students at Mimosa Elementary School. The special school day celebrated Georgia history.
Why were buffalo and Civil War re-enactment actors at Holcomb Bridge Middle School recently? These otherwise unexpected guests—and others—were part of the first Georgia Heritage Day hosted by the middle school. Eighth grade students spent a full day of immersion with hands-on, experiential activities to learn about and celebrate Georgia history. Inspired by teachers Elizabeth McMahon and Jennifer Foil, the teaching staff, administration and PTA worked quickly and tirelessly to cover all the bases for a well-orchestrated day that rotated students through seven stations, opening their eyes to history in a highly engaging way. Taylor Cookston and Cameron Petrovich were chosen by the coaches of Single A teams.
Fellowship Christian School juniors Taylor Cookston and Cameron Petrovich were selected to the First Team All State Class Single "A" recently. They were chosen by the coaches of all Single A teams. Only 11 varsity boys are named to this all-star team, which makes the nomination an honor for the FCS lacrosse community. Both Cookston and Petrovich played on the first FCS middle school team. After only four seasons of Paladin Lacrosse, there are currently 110 athletes (boys and girls) playing lacrosse at Fellowship from U11 to Varsity. Petrovich was also recognized as a GHSA Honorable Mention player, voted on by all 5A through Single A coaches in the state of Georgia, making him one of the top ten percent players among 5AAAAA-1A in Georgia. …

All of the school's students participated in making unique art for the digital scavenger hunt.
Roswell North Elementary is jumping in on the artsy action and joining a local movement called "Free Art Fridays," which has the purpose of making art accessible to all people. Around the metro Atlanta, local artists "drop" small, handmade, artworks that are free for the taking. The idea is to get art out of the gallery and into everyday spaces. A sort-of scavenger hunt over Twitter, as artists tweet pictures of their artwork to encourage "takers" to find the hidden pieces. The "takers" then tweet back a thank you to the artist, showing that the artwork has been found, according to Fulton County Schools.
