A new gas station, thousands of cars passing through daily and high rates of speed are the three things that precipitated the need for no turning right on a red light at Mansell and Crossville roads, say Roswell Transportation Department staff. The relatively new RaceTrac at that corner has people flying across several lanes of traffic in an attempt to pull in, according to the city's field studies. But even before the gas station was there, the intersection was listed as one of the city's "Top Ten High Accident Locations." Southbound Mansell right turn rear end accidents were predominant. Roswell’s Director of Transportation Steven Acenbrak was recently designated a Public Works Leadership Fellow (PWLF) by the American Public Works Association (APWA). As a PWLF fellow, Acenbrak will mentor public works professionals enrolled in the APWA Donald C. Stone Center for Leadership Excellence (DCS Center) throughout the year. He is among 200 public works professionals from across North America who were recently inducted as Leadership Fellows (PWLF). The APWA Donald C. Stone Center’s Program Council determines the selection of recipients for the PWLF designation. “The average age of APWA members in leadership positions is 55 years old. Not only are people turning right from the center lane and causing some issues, but they're also turning left from that lane. I cannot tell you the times I have almost been hit by some jerk making a left from the center lane. I think having both of those lanes turning left would be a fantastic idea, and would allow more cars to get through the intersection since as it is now, the whole turning …   more ›
