Yesterday we asked for your input on great places for Mother's Day brunch, and today we want to know: Where are the best places to shop for gifts for Mom in Roswell? Whether it's clothing, jewelry, spa gift certificates or flowers, what's your best bet for doing some shopping for that all important day? Oh, and in case you didn't know, Mother's Day 2013 is this Sunday, May 12.
Ga. Dept. of Education releases new performance indicator.
Today the Georgia Department of Education released its first Georgia College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) that measures elementary, middle and high schools on a 100-point scale. According to a press release, "the CCRPI is the new accountability system that replaces the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) measurement in Georgia." The department stated that the average score for Georgia’s elementary schools is 83.4, middle schools is 81.4 and high schools is 72.6. Centennial and Roswell rank in Newsweek's best 2,000 high schools.
Roswell schools have aced Newsweek/The Daily Beast's list of best 2,000 public high schools in America. According to the list, out of the top 2,000 public high schools in the country, Centennial High School ranked No. 913 and Roswell High ranked No. 1038. Nearby, Northview ranks at No. 197, Johns Creek comes in at No. 214, and Chattahoochee is No. 518, while Alpharetta High came in at 739 and Milton High was No. 975. Newsweek’s ranking highlights high schools across the nation that have proven to be the most effective in turning out college-ready grads. The list is based on six components:

We need your suggestions on great places to treat Mom on the big day.
Hey Roswell! In case you didn't know, Mother's Day 2013 is fast approaching. The big day is Sunday, May 12, and we need your help. Tell us the best place to celebrate with a Mother's Day brunch in Roswell. Or, if breakfast, lunch or dinner is more your speed, we'll take those suggestions, too. And any helpful hints, such as best dishes, whether you should make a reservation, how family friendly is the restaurant, etc., would be great!
After 20 percent chance of showers Tuesday, mostly sunny skies on tap in Roswell.
After a weekend filled with flood warnings and event cancellations, Roswell will start to see some relief from the rain on Tuesday, with mostly sunny skies predicted to move in on Wednesday. According to the National Weather Service's Roswell forecast, showers are likely to continue Monday, with a high near 61. New rainfall amounts will total a 10th to 1/4th inch, with amounts higher in thunderstorms. The flood warning for Big Creek in North Fulton and Forsyth continues with minor flooding and some yards affected. The Big Creek Greenway is closed and flooded with up to four feet of water in some areas. The river will fall below flood stage early Tuesday afternoon. May is National Historic Preservation Month and Roswell will celebrate with Heritage Days in May – a month-long event series that highlights the city’s historic charm and culture. "We are delighted to once again be hosting Heritage Days in May," said Morgan Timmis, Roswell's Historic and Cultural Affairs manager. Roswell shares a behind the scenes look with residents during its Drinking Water Festival this weekend.

Observance to be held at City Hall on Thursday.
Editor's Note: While the event takes place at Roswell City Hall, it is not sponsored by the city, but by Raise His Praise Worship Center. Roswell will mark the National Day of Prayer this Thursday from noon to 1 p.m. at City Hall, 38 Hill St. National Day of Prayer is an annual service held on the first Thursday of May. The occasion invites all faiths to participate, and was created in 1952 by a U.S. Congress joint resolution signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. Skip Kelly Kakes! The new tapas menu is clearly microwaved--we could hear the microwave opening and closing from our table! The food was really bad and overpriced to make it worse!
