Local Rowing Clubs to 'Row for the Cure' in Roswell

The event will raise funds for Komen Atlanta and promote active lifestyles.

In an effort to demonstrate the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle and its effect on breast cancer, Komen Atlanta is teaming up with several metro Atlanta rowing clubs to present the 6th annual Row for the Cure Saturday, Sept. 22. Trained rowers from St. Andrew Rowing Club, Atlanta Rowing Club, Atlanta Junior Rowing Association, Georgia State Crew and Emory Crew will all take part in this year’s Row for the Cure. Each participating rowing club determines its own fundraising goals and is encouraged to raise money throughout each member’s community. Day of event activities include a pink boat spirit contest, a picnic lunch, music by local band, Fisheye, and the first Komen Atlanta Row for the Cure All Star Challenge. The challenge …

Atlanta Junior Rowing Association to Hold Open House Saturday

Teens between the ages of 12-18 are invited to come out and check out the sport of rowing!

If you’re looking for a fun new sport, have always wanted to know more about the exciting sport of Olympic rowing, or just want to get into amazing physical shape, check out Atlanta Junior Rowing Association’s (AJRA) open house on Saturday, Aug. 18. Current rowers and former AJRA rowers, parents and coaches will be on hand to answer any question from practice times to regattas to college recruiting.  Interested teens will also be able get into a rowing shell, be shown basic rowing techniques, watch race footage and learn about land training equipment.   The open house will take place from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. for teens ages 12-18 and their parents at the AJRA boathouse next to Roswell River Landing at 245 Azalea Drive in Roswell. Local Clubs Set to 'Row For the Cure' Along the Chattahoochee in Roswell

Event raises funds for Komen Atlanta and promote active lifestyles.

Komen Atlanta is teaming up with several local rowing clubs to present the fifth annual "Row for the Cure" on Saturday, Sept. 17, in an effort to demonstrate the importance of healthy and active lifestyles. The 12-hour row-a-thon, which begins at 7 a.m. at Azalea Park in Roswell, has raised nearly $200,000 for Komen Atlanta since 2007. Trained rowers from St. Andrew Rowing Club, Atlanta Rowing Club, Atlanta Junior Rowing Association, Georgia State Crew and Georgia Tech Crew will all take part in this year’s Row for the Cure.  “Even though the greatest risk factors for breast cancer are being a woman and getting older, research has proven that physical activity and maintaining a healthy lifestyle positively impacts breast health,” said …

Rowers Practice on Local Waters

The Atlanta Rowing Club is based out of Roswell.

A Roswell Patch reader recently captured these images of the Atlanta Rowing Club practicing in the fog and put together this slideshow. The non-profit club, which is run by volunteers, has been located on the Chattahoochee River in Roswell since the early 80s, according to its website. Members row both recreationally and competitively.
