The Powerhouse Self-Defense Program of Roswell has begun to empower and educate hundreds of girls and women across the United States. The Girl Scouts of USA has consistently used the Powerhouse Self-Defense Program, which was established in November of 2011, as their number one source for education on awareness and self defense techniques. The Powerhouse self-defense curriculum coincides with the Girl Scout mission of building girls of courage, confidence, and character. The program has held workshops for local girl scouts over the past year, mostly in the Atlanta area. However, after providing workshops for girl scouts from around the country at the Girl Scouts Centennial Camporee held this year in Savannah, GA, Powerhouse Self-Defense …

Upcoming classes will be held Saturday, April 21, at East Roswell Park for six through 10-year-olds and girls ages 13 and up.
With the recent rash of attempted child abductions around the metro area, some local parents are looking for ways to keep their children safer. Many believe they've found it in Revved Up Kids. The organization is offering several single session self-defense classes this coming Saturday, April 21, taught by Revved Up Kids experts at East Roswell Park. The first session, a three hour class from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. for 6-10 year olds, calls for parents and kids to attend together. Parental involvement is important since most young children won’t retain the lessons unless they are continually reinforced, say the experts at Revved Up Kids. The training provides the foundation and the parents have the tools to keep reinforcing the learning at home…

According to Google, "krav maga atlanta" is up several thousand percent as a search term over the past five years.

Most likely because of its origins as a combat technique for Isreal's military, Krav Maga - meaning Krav/"battle" Maga/"contact" - was simply viewed as another martial arts style of self defense for a long time. It wasn't until recent years that many people began to gravitate toward the method as a fantastic way to get fit, as well. Eric Sepeda can't blame them. "I took my first Krav Maga class in 2002 and have been …

In honor of the centennial celebration of International Women’s Day, one Roswell self-defense instructor is working to empower local women as well as expand her reach by donating to the international cause. In conjunction with the grand opening of her self-defense class, instructor Jennifer Riis-Poulsen has promised 10 percent of her fees will go toward Students Active For Ending Rape (SAFER), an organization that fights sexual violence by empowering student-led campaigns to reform college sexual assault policies. Riis-Poulsen, a second degree black belt, will also be teaching self-defense classes for several middle and high school Girl Scout Troops in the Roswell area. “When statistics show that one in five college ladies are sexually …

Tips on raising your confidence and lowering your risk of being a victim.
Even though I hated it for most of the 10 years I took it, I am grateful that my parents saw the importance of me learning self-defense by taking a karate class. Violence is everywhere these days—in movies, on TV shows and everywhere in between. As much as we all wish that those terrible images would stay strictly in the fictional world, we know all too often that it makes its way into the real world. Here's to keeping us all from being just another statistic. The Karate Kid. Now that I know the value of knowing some type of martial arts, I highly recommend taking a class or seminar in self-defense. You don’t need an excuse to learn how to protect yourself. You don’t have to be getting bullied or be training for a …
