Bringing jobs to Georgia and improving education were on the minds of State Senate candidates at a voter information forum at Johns Creek High School on Tuesday night. State Sen. John Albers (R-District 56) faced his Democratic challenger, Akhtar Sadiq, during a question-and-answer session moderated by Johns Creek City Council Member Ivan Figueroa. When asked what his top priorities would be if re-elected, Albers said he would continue what he had already been doing – creating jobs. He said that would be accomplished by lowering taxes and reducing regulatory burdens. He pointed out that he had participated in a commission to lure jobs to Georgia. Roswell High School student Brendan Starr is foregoing the usual summer job to help run the world, or at least the state. Starr and two other students are spending their summers interning for state Sen. John Albers (R-Roswell). Starr, the only high school student to intern in Albers' office this summer, joins Paul Oh and Erin Hanson to help the senator with various tasks around the office including research, community events and meetings with state leaders. “I’m committed to working with high school and college students, giving them a unique learning opportunity and helping them to make a difference in their state government,” said Sen. Mountain Park will host State Senator John Albers town hall meeting, Saturday, Mar. 26.
If you've had burning questions about this current legislative session, now is your chance to get them answered. As a way of staying in touch with his constituents, Roswell's State Senator John Albers will host a town hall meeting in Mountain Park this Saturday. Albers will make a presentation of legislative updates and then give attendees the chance to ask questions. All 56th Senate District residents are invited to participate. The meeting will be held in conjunction with State Senator Chip Rogers from Woodstock. It will take place at Mountain Park City Hall, 118 Lake Shore Drive, Mountain Park on Saturday, Mar. 26 from 11 a.m. - noon.

Albers enters a resolution to show support of Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker's new bill.
Republican State Senator John Albers, of Roswell, and several of his colleagues have entered a resolution in support of Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker and that state's majority members' proposed bill to balance their budget. The controversial Wisconsin bill - which would require most public sector employees to contribute more to their benefits and give up most of their collective bargaining rights - is currently working its way through the Wisconsin Assembly, much to the dismay of state union leaders. Walker, a Republican, has said the bill is crucial in solving the state's $137 million deficit. Democratic lawmakers are vehemently opposed to the bill and even staged a filibuster Tuesday, Feb. 22.
