A best-selling young-adult book becomes a movie and is bound to be a hit. It's a survival-of-the-fittest reality show that leaves you craving for more.
It's one of the most anticipated movies to hit the big screen in some time, and we have the scoop right here. It has all the elements of a big hit -- teen romance, violence, and action. Mix in some rising young stars and you have "The Hunger Games." Jennifer Lawrence isn't a household name yet, but she will be. Known to this point for her critically acclaimed role in the film "Winter's Bone," Lawrence plays Katniss, one of two people from her district who must play a nationally televised game, in which there can be just one winner -- the last one living. Equipped with knives, swords, bows, arrows, and other weapons, the massacre begins. This futuristic tale takes place in the country of Panem, after an apocalyptic war. The country is split…

A group of men stranded in the wilderness get hunted down by a pack of
wolves. It's primal, it's primitive…it's Grey.
Liam Neeson and a bunch of roughneck oil riggers go down in a plane crash in the frozen Alaska wilderness in "The Grey." Neeson plays John Ottway, a loner and the alpha dog, of sorts, among the surviving men of the crash. They are forced to stay together to battle the elements and a pack of wolves, set on making them the next meal. A supporting cast includes Dallas Roberts as the smart sensitive guy, Dermot Mulroney as the sad dad missing his kid, and Frank Grillo as the Latino hothead. They face frostbite, wolf bite, drowning, and falling from great heights. Harsh outcomes for both man and beast. In the middle of this life and death situation there's time for conversation among the men. We get to know their back story and learn that they …

A free movie can be a great thing, especially when you get to sit in the comfortable movie theater chairs and look up at a very large screen. So the Monday, Jan. 16 showing of "The Fat Boy Chronicles" should be welcomed. The YMCA is hosting the free, 4:30 p.m. screening at Studio Movie Grill, but you must RSVP by today, Friday, Jan. 13 for your family. Once the final credits play, families will discuss the problems of childhood obesity and how to deal with them. "The Fat Boy Chronicles" is based on a book by Lang Buchanan. It was inspired by an obese 8th grader in Cincinnati. It views life through the journal of a bullied overweight ninth grader. Lang Buchanan (Diane Lang and Michael Buchanan), authors of the book, began writing together …

Not ready for big movies yet? Little kids will love Kidtoons!
If you're longing for the day when your entire family can enjoy a movie in the theatre together, like I am, consider this happy compromise: cartoons on the big screen. With a preschooler and a toddler, the day when we'll all enjoy the same in-theater movie is dismally far away. Luckily, there's a fun (and cheap!) movie dress rehearsal, of sorts, just for kids. Studio Movie Grill on Holcomb Bridge Road offers a Kidtoons Matinee movie at 11 a.m. every Saturday. From Care Bears and My Little Pony to Bob the Builder, you can enjoy a show for only $2 per person, which is a great price in case you have to leave early. The seating is tiered, so there's a better chance that even half-pints will be able to see the screen. And they serve actual …
