The Perfect Thanksgiving Turkey Recipe

A few years ago, my sister found the perfect turkey recipe. Then she lost it. This one comes pretty close.

A few years ago, my sister found a recipe for turkey that's steeped in brine and herbs for a day or so, then stuffed with apples, oranges and onions before roasting. It was, my whole extended family agreed, the best turkey ever. Last year, my sister couldn't find the recipe. She found one that's similar, but without all the herbs. Then I found this one from Emeril Lagasse on foodnetwork.com. It may not be the very same, but it's gotten some great reviews. (Click on the link to see the recipe, photos and reviews.) If you have a better one, please share! But for now, this is what I'm going with this year, unless by some miracle that other recipe shows up: Ingredients: Brine: Turkey prep and stuffing: Turkey Broth: Gravy: For the Brine: To …

Thanksgiving Recipes: How to Cook a Turkey

If you need a new recipe for your Thanksgiving turkey, give one of these non-traditional twists a try.

There are many ways to cook everyone’s favorite holiday bird. Each family has its own special technique for cooking a turkey, whether it's using an old family recipe, adding a secret ingredient or shopping at a certain store in town that helps make the turkey taste all the better. If you're hosting Thanksgiving this year, you can try any of the recipes below to add a new kick to your feast. If you're attending someone else’s dinner, hopefully their turkey will taste as good as one of these! Just the name of this recipe makes my mouth water. This one requires no pre-made …

Oops, I Dropped the Turkey and Other Thanksgiving Day Mishaps

Community members tell us about their favorite Thanksgiving Day blunders–and these pilgrims are all thankful for their memories!

Despite a solid command of most things culinary, I've definitely had my fair share of mistakes in the kitchen, especially on Thanksgiving Day, when my stunts seem to take on a whole new meaning for the word "disaster." I have made a Thanksgiving fool of myself on more than one occasion, and my family has come to expect it. "What will it be this year?" they ask in a joking tone, but I can detect a scant hint of true concern in the question. They are secretly wondering if we are all going to end up at a Chinese food restaurant because I forgot to defrost the turkey. Well, I'm not alone. There are plenty of you out there with the same reputation, yet surprisingly, everyone one of us will pull off a splendid and bountiful Thanksgiving spread …

Volunteers Help NFCC Distribute Thanksgiving Dinners

North Fulton Community Charities helps give more than 800 needy families a happy Thanksgiving

North Fulton Community Charities (NFCC) partnered with multiple local organizations for their 28th Annual Thanksgiving Food Distribution on Sunday. Over 380 volunteers from such organizations as Young Men’s Service League, Northpoint Community Church and Interact Club helped distribute 1,800 bags of canned goods to needy families. Volunteers from the Atlanta metro area worked tirelessly all weekend to sort and package donated goods from local churches and school food drives. The volunteer effort was even a family affair for some – like Missy Kaish and her daughter, Kathryn. Both are regular volunteers for the Roswell-Alpharetta National Charity League. “We do a lot of volunteer work as a mother-daughter team,” Missy said. “Especially …

A Look at Thanksgiving by the Numbers

HoneyBaked plans to sell 7.99 million pounds of Thanksgiving ham and turkey in Georgia alone.

In November and December HoneyBaked will sell more than 7 million pounds of turkey and ham, according to the company's retail marketing manager. Such a statistic seems excessive but according to Melissa Pumphrey, but this is only the average number of expected sales. And don’t forget about those oh-so-important Thanksgiving side dishes. Pumphery says HoneyBaked’s potato side dishes are the customer favorites. “Our potatoes are huge,” she said. “We sell, between mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes soufflé and potatoes a gratin, more than 275,630 pounds. Our potato sides are definitely the most popular, especially our sweet potato soufflé.”  Last but certainly not least comes the desserts. Pumphery told us that during this sales period …
