Westside Parkway Opens to North Fulton Traffic

The final section of Westside Parkway from Old Milton to Webb Bridge had its ceremonial parade of cars.

North Fulton Community Improvement District officials and other local leaders, including Roswell Mayor Jere Wood, turned Westside Parkway into a parking lot this afternoon. But it was only a prelude to the road's long-awaited opening an hour or so later. "This is the road that wouldn't be built but got built anyway," said Alpharetta Mayor David Belle Isle. Belle Isle said in 2009 when the ribbon was cut for the southern section of Westside, connecting with Mansell Road, the thought was that in just a few months they'd all be back together to open this section. "We had a foreclosure here, we had a bankruptcy here. We had a dispute among the property owners," the mayor said. Fast Facts About Westside Parkway Moses Brown, vice chairman of the…

Yes. I live in Alpharetta and work in midtown. In the last 2 years it seems the congestion on 400 has doubled. I drove the new section this morning from Windward Pkwy to Mansell Road. It was a dream compared to sitting in that traffic on 400.   more â€ş

Westside Parkway Opens Next Monday

The first "official" use of the roadway after a ribbon cutting will be a parade of vehicles past the ceremony area from the southern end north to Webb Bridge Road.

Finally. Westside Parkway's last section will open in North Fulton on Monday, April 23, after a 3 p.m. ribbon-cutting. "We think this is going to be a big impact to trafifc on Highway 9 and on Haynes Bridge Road," said Brandon Beach, president of the Greatern North Fulton Chamber of Commerce and executive director of the North Fulton Community Improvement District. Beach was speaking to the Windward Rotary Club on Monday, April 16 at its meeting in the Atlanta Marriott Alpharetta. It took an extra four years as Prospect Park went bankrupt before it was even built, dragging the four-lane road into limbo with it. But once North American Properties bought the property, right of way for the part of Westside that was a piece of the Prospect …

Expect Last Section of Westside Parkway to Open in April

C.W. Matthews, the contractor picked by Alpharetta, started work on Monday to complete the last section of the road.

Officials say the last section of Westside Parkway in nearby Alpharetta should be opened in April as long as the good weather holds. Mayor David Belle Isle said crews will work 24/7 in some cases on the section between Old Milton Parkway and Webb Bridge Road. The final connection of Westside provides an arterial corridor along GA and should provide some traffic relief.  Pete Sewczwicz, director of Engineering/Public Works for Alpharetta, explained what C.W. Matthews will be doing as the road contractor. The City Council awarded the $1.65 million contract on March 19. For about 85 percent of the road, he said they will mill the existing asphalt to make sure there are no issues under the road after it was poured years ago by Thomas …

Alpharetta Reaches Agreements to Get Property for Last Section of Westside Parkway

With funds from the North Fulton CID, GDOT and impact credits, the city will be able to finish the last section of the north-south connecting road.

Alpharetta City Council passed a resolution Monday, Nov. 28, that OKs agreements between two property owners that control land on which the last stretch of Westside Parkway has been mostly built. With a push led by City Councilman Chris Owens and negotiations by City Attorney Sam Thomas, Alpharetta will acquire the two properties. City Administrtor Bob Regus made the announcement at City Hall during Monday's council meeting. By state requirements, the city has to advertise for proposals from contractors for 30 days before picking one to finish the road. “The bottom line is that construction on the final stage of Westside Parkway will begin shortly after the first of the year,” said Mayor Arthur Letchas in a release handed out at the …

Does the city have any plans for landscape barriers (trees, shrubs, etc) to give some privacy to the townhouses and apartments that are located alongside the section of Westside Parkway that is to be opened soon? Thanks.   more â€ş
