Afternoon Commute Will be a Soggy Mess Thursday

Severe thunderstorms are part of a hazardous weather outlook that says there will be an 80 percent chance of rain at 4 p.m., and rising to 100 percent soon after.

Roswell could be hit by severe thunderstorms late this afternoon and this evening, according to the National Weather Service. With an 80 percent chance of precipitation at 4 p.m., and rising to 100 percent through the evening, expect to get wet if you go outside. With a south wind 5 to 15 mph, and gusts as high as 20 mph today, the rain won't be coming straight down at times. Even this evening the gusts could reach 15 mph. The National Weather Service said, "some of the storms could be severe and produce heavy rainfall" tonight. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches are possible. Gusting Wind, Hail May Create Hazards in Roswell

The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory through Wednesday, and says isolated thunderstorms and tornadoes are possible.

Hold onto your hats, it's getting windy out there, so windy that the National Weather Service has put out a wind advisory until 7 p.m. Wednesday. Wind will increase from west to east through late this afternoon. The wind has started out from the southwest at 15 to 25 mph. Gusts will be up to 30 mph in heavier showers, which also are a possibility. The southwest winds have made that 59 degree lunchtime temperature seem a little warmer, but by Wednesday the wind will be out of the west with continued gusts to 40 mph. Small trees in saturated soils and drought stressed trees may be toppled. If you are driving a high profile vehicle such as a minivan or SUV, expect driving to become hazardous in these gusts. Wind Advisory: Gusts Up to 40 MPH Possible

Severe storms and heavy rainfall are possible as a strong storm system and cold front move across north and central Georgia.

Strong winds are expected to develop as a storm system and cold front move into the Roswell area Tuesday night and Wednesday. In effect 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, a wind advisory for north and central Georgia, including North Fulton county, warns of 15 to 25 mph winds with gusts up to 35 mph, which make driving difficult. "Showers and a few thunderstorms will accompany these winds, but it should be noted that very strong winds will be possible outside of any shower or thunderstorm activity as well," the advisory says. "Recent rains and the additional heavy rainfall anticipated from this system will allow for trees to be uprooted with greater ease." Rain Will Give Way to Gusting Wind, Creating Driving Hazards

A wind advisory has been forecast for tonight and Friday, with gusts as high as 40 mph possible.

As the pouring rain this morning showed us it's a wet day and expect it to stay that way. The National Weather Service forecast for Roswell put the chance for rain at 100 percent this afternoon, dropping to 30 percent tonight. Rainfall amounts between a quarter and a half of an inch are possible. It will get pretty cool tonight, with a low around 29. Rain won't be a problem, but wind will. Strong gusts that will make driving hazardous, especially for high profile vehicles. A strong cold front was racing through the region this morning and afternoon.
